There is some truth here. Maura was crying and Vasi was likely hit by a car. All you need do now is put Maura in the car that hit Vasi. Or at a minimum, show Maura's car hit Vasi.
And you should be aware that you are no where near doing that.
Bill
Bill,
Surely we should be allowed to put forward theories and suppositions on this board, however impossible it would be for those to be corroborated 8,5 years after the events in question.
That is something which only LE just possibly might be able to do.
In my opinion the timing of the likely Vasi hit-and-run case is way too much of a coincidence to be lightly dismissed out of hand.
Maura or at least Maura´s Saturn could conceivably have been involved.
Even if this theoretically could be substantiated, it does not, of course, bring us an inch closer to understanding what happened to Maura after her crash in Haverhill,NH.

I will leave that for the amherst police department to prove ... If they can ever figure out how to unlock themselves from the holding cell.

Thanks,

I actually wasn't aware of the second newspaper in amherst. there is probably some valuable articles from back in the day in the archives.

I may have to spring the money to do some researching.

I agree. And wouldn't there be talking or even gossip going around campus about Petrit? So musch so that people started to wonder if Maura could have left her post in that time frame? The supervisor contacted police upon Maura's missing. Wouldn't campus police try to find out if Maura left her post? Maybe they did look into it? I don't recall ever hearing any mention of that.
And what do we do about it now? The car has been sitting outside in the elements for so long I'm not sure if even a hair could be found or any trace of Petrit's DNA.

YVW. I am amazed at how many long "lost" articles can be found this way. You do have to weed through though and scroll all the way to the end of many pages.....beware. Some won't BE about our MM per say. It'll be some other "murray" or "maura", same goes for Petrit if you look into his archived stuff. There's a trucking board too that has almost everything. They copy/pasted many articles that were removed, archived or just taken away.
Some of the old stuff I've been looking at I don't recall ever seeing either.
I don't want to take up alot of space here though.
I'm sure people get the idea and can go have a look.

There are other tabs (for other newspapers and periodicals)on the main page so you can really expand your searching.
I'm off for some good sleep now.

Petrit's misfortunes were never treated like a crime took place.

When he finally woke up from his coma over a month later, he noticed that his wallet had been emptied and police even speculated that he could've been jumped and robbed and knocked into a coma that fateful night by a bunch of hooligans.

The fact that the police had no earthly idea what happened to petrit (like you couldn't see pieces of car laying where petrit was found) tells me all I need to know about how amherst police dealt with this situation.

Likely, they had this passed out college kid in the road scooped up and taken to the hospital and it was only after the fact when vasi's injuries became more apparent, that police maybe started to realize that something of a criminal nature took place. And by that point, the crime scene would've already been too disturbed, therefore there will never be a resolution to what happened to vasi.

Also, it wasn't an uncommon occurence for someone to be hit by a car (or for that fact at any university where you have tons of foot traffic and tons of wild drivers), so I don't know how much rumors would be spreading.

But from the perspective of someone who was the person who hit somebody with their car and left the scene ... face it, they wouldn't even begin to know how much damage to the person they did. And when they start to think about it (especially if the victim ended up dying or paralyzed down the road) that may be quite a burden to have to attempt to quietly carry the rest of your life knowing you were responsible.

Okay, you don't make sense. You say she hit him and robbed him and drove back to school and became a zombie that started crying because she didn't know all that happened and then it sunk in. Ambulance crew thought he was passed out drunk so they took him to hospital. Pieces of car all over and police ignored everything.

After reading Orko's new posts about Petrit Vasi, I did some research on pedestrians hit by cars. I found this very interesting forum thread from 2010 by a person who, coincidentally enough, lives in Northampton, MA. For a short time, I thought that it would be interesting if it was Maura posting, but it wasn't.

But I do think it is interesting in terms of what kind of damage was done to his car. Here is part of his first paragraph in the thread:

"I hit a pedestrian today. Some dumbass decided to sprint in front of my car and despite the brembos, I wasn't able to stop in time. He hit my front bumper, rolled over the hood, hit the windshield, and hit the roof. Then he went flying and hit the asphalt in front of my car. I got out of the car and asked if he was alright, and he said he was fine. He got up, and then an officer, who saw most of the incident approached him and asked if he was alright. He said he wasn't injured, but was very late for a parol hearing, and then he ran away.

My bumper is destroyed. My hood is dented and gouged and destroyed. My roof has a dent. My driver side fender is scratched. When I started driving away after he ran away, The entire tire well on my passenger side ripped off, damaged my passenger side fender and the section with the chrome STi emblem. One foglight is also damaged."

His next post says: "Yeah. It sucked. I left work to go get a sandwich, and on my way back, I hit this scumbag. I felt sick after the accident. So, I left work early, picked up large quantities of beer, and went home. I've made a fair dent into my beer stash I'd say. I'm trying to forget the feeling that I had when I thought I killed this fool. When I got out of the car, I was expecting to see a dead body. But this moron must have 9 lives."

The whole story is eerily similar to what people are theorizing about MM and Vasi. It was this second post that made me think "Maura? Is that you?"

He then took pictures of the damage to his car - they are posted on the third page here:
http://www.iwsti.com/forums/gr-general/191473...

What is interesting to me is that the damage is not nearly as bad as what happened to Maura's car, yet it is quite extensive. Also, the pedestrian got up and ran away, so it appears his injuries were not as bad as Vasi's. The forum poster doesn't say how fast he was going, but he does say he wasn't speeding. If Maura did do this, take a quick unauthorized break to get something to eat, she undoubtedly was speeding to make sure she wasn't caught being away from the security desk. If a pedestrian did that much damage to the forum poster's car while not speeding, it is feasible that the damage to Maura's car could have been caused by hitting Vasi.

Oh well, sorry about the duplicate post, this site is really strange when it comes to posting.

All that said, I'm still not sure I believe the Vasi theory. I looked at what UMass lists as their current student parking lots (I doubt they have changed.) There are only two near Melville, the dorm where MM was working, and Kennedy where she lived. Those are lots 11 and 22, both south of the dorms. According to Google maps, using the "walk" feature, it would take 6 minutes to get to the closest lot, Lot 22, and 11 minutes to get to the farther Lot 11. It's .4 miles to the first lot, and that is only to the middle of the lot, and it's .6 miles to the nearest part of Lot 11. There is no way MM would have used metered parking to park "close by," not when she was working a shift at her job, so she had to have parked in the designated lots.

Now you're talking, at best, 12 minutes just to get to and back from her car, and more likely longer than that. That already is a lot of time to be away from her desk. Now add 5 minutes just to her destination and back, now you're looking at 22 minutes just for getting to her car and driving. I just don't buy that she did that and nobody noticed.
