Indeed, speculations of this sort have occurred a number of times. Did Maura stop for gas, and was she followed? Did someone take her and stage the accident? Was she in a prior accident on the same road, take off, then get into another accident further down the road? Did someone intentionally wreck her, take her, then plant the car further down the road? Was her car delivered to the WB by a truck? Was she ever in NH? Was she abducted by aliens? used in experiments for vitamin research? Taken or killed by friend, family member, local, professor? Possibly intentional possibly not? Did things in her personal life lead to her disappearance? From when and where did she check her voicemail? Is it possible that she didn't take the path that everyone thought? Is there really a video of her in a liquor store (no one ever saw it)? The entire trail from one point to the next has been looked over. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the people on this forum know or have a good idea of what happened to her. It's difficult to say exactly who that would be, but the rest of the people are just left to form their own theories, and unless LE actually solves this case, they will all remain theories and there never will be a consensus. Mason probably did the most thorough analysis, but most of the people discredited him because they believe that he put up a pretense of objectivity when in fact he had an agenda the entire time. I think the people on here are still divided on that matter, but bringing all that up again will probably result in the forum being shut down anyway.

Bill,
Do you or anybody else here know whether the Stage Stop Store on Rte 112 in Swiftwater village possibly had gas pumps available back in 2004?
If so, Maura could theoretically have filled her car up there.
On the other hand, even so, itīs pretty likely that such a transaction would have been noted and remembered by the person/s in the store at the time.
My sons say no they did not and even if they did they close early, like around 6pm.

Not once did I imply she was followed what I was trying to get at is if she stopped for gas there would have been video of her doing so at any of these places, except for the gas station across from OSJL, in that case she would have been physically seen. Like I said go to the photo I posted a link to on one of my posts her gas gauge registers almost full in the off position which means on that particular car that when you turn the power on and start the car the gas gauge will go up.

You obviously had some real buttheads on here in the past, who did not give a shit one way or the other whether this is ever solved, and just chimed in for the sole purpose to humor themselves. If have been repetitive I apologize but I didn't have time to read what remains of the posts on here or know of anyone else considering the gas station theory. But you'd think the police having doing their job properly at the time of the initial investigation may have checked considering her gas tank was indeed full. This in itself would lead one to believe that car was filled up by someone in the immediate area.

I do believe it was conclusive, that she filled up somewhere nearby. I also believe HPD attained any available videos nearby.

As I live in the South,(and we are often the brunt of jokes) I am very distressed to hear that people of the town where Maura disappeared were once labeled as "inbreds."
My natural nature would be to help anyone, but, well, being labeled something like that would make me think twice. And yes I do have kids of my own.
I see why everyone was downing Shack and others now....If you want people in a certain town/region/area to help you DON'T freakin' label them as inbreds/killers/idiots...yeah I could go on forever.

If the car had to be towed back to Amherst and sat there for most of the time unused, then my guess is there were about 10 gallons in the car. If you can get 30 mpg, she could drive 300 miles before filling up. I would think that in addition to getting her money and goods, she'd fill the car up before she took off. Especially if my idea of what was in the car for gas was even less than 10 gallons. Let's say she had less, and filled up before leaving. Why would she feel the need to get gas once she made it to the area? And even more than that, why would she make sure to have a full or close to full tank if she were say 70 miles away from her destination. All this is sloppy stats for ya. Just saying,(to shoot the suicide idea down), why fill your car up from the first fill up if it's a one way trip?.........

No activity on any credit cards.....so she'd've paid by cash for any and all gas toward the end of the trip.

If she'd been drinking, why would she risk anything by making any kind of stop that she didn't need to? There are rest stations for personal breaks and as someone else suggested, mother nature, not just a gas station.

Just realized that maybe some of that food found in the car was bought toward the end Maybe she did get gas and maybe she was getting hungry. Whatever she needed to do may have taken her much longer to do and hunger may have set in, So maybe she did stop and maybe she wasn't drinking yet, or at all......i know, i know, there was a bottle of something incriminating on the ground.
Didn't mean to ramble, just simply tired and heading off for some beauty sleep. God knows I need it

My sons lived on Carr Rd. which is almost directly across from the store and they beg to differ on the gas being there. I was there in 2001 and and there were no gas pumps there then as well. Also they insist that the store closes at 6 and whenever I go over to see them, which is often now, the store is closed quite early. Whether they closed early then I could not tell you, but they insist, my oldest son says the only time they stay open late is during hunting season.

All I can say is look at the photo it does not lie she has nearly a full tank with the car in an off position. Once you crank the key over that gas gauge goes up not down. So she obviously filled up. As far as your theory I live much closer to Woodsville then the distance she had traveled from Amherst and I use more gas then you are speculating she used, get real. So what you are saying is she drove from Amherst and only used a 16th of a tank?...NOT!!! The picture does not lie! The gas gauge as I stated before is located on the lower left of the instrument cluster: http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a126/MauraM...

Maybe there is no gas. A poster from several years ago stated she left the store at around 8 when it closed.

It certainly looks as if Mauraīs intention was to continue driving for quite some while, since she quite obviously filled up her car somewhere close to where her car was found.
My theory is that she might well have been heading to the Bartlett area, and instead of driving US 302 east from Woodsville, she chose Rte 112.
Why?
Well, it could be argued that Rte 112 looks like being the shortest route when studying a road map over the area.
Since Maura apparently had never driven this part of Rte 112 previously, she could not previously know the actual state of that road between the US 302 intersection and Lincoln/North Woodstock.

How could she leave the store around 8 when the accident happened between 7 and 7:30? The first 911 call came in at 7:29, this is after FW saw her car and drove home to call. SBD saw her prior to FW as well, maybe as much as 10 minutes prior to FW. Just saying and my kids who are now all grown have lived there since 1997. I can only go by what they tell me as far as the store hours.

I have driven that road several times and I remember the first time I drove it back in 2001 (my father had driven it several times as my parents used to take us to The Lost River in the summers when we were kids) but my first time which was in daylight was not a good experience, a lot of twists and turns in that part of the road. She drove it at night and if she had never driven it it would have been a nightmare as the lighting is terrible. There are always accidents on that part of 112.

I just received an email from MM's aunt and she told me the gas stations were looked into, but she does not know to what extent, LE will not release that or any info because of the ongoing investigation.
