The last report shows that the gunman forced enty ( broken glass). The rooms that Locked down are pretty much off limits to the gunman and that helps save lives and it did in this case. The school also had locked doors with a buzzer and video camera. Some schools have a SRO or senior resource officer, The officer has an office in the school and is there to bond and protect. I think this is a far better option than arming teachers with guns. I hope that many schools take this time to re- examine their procedures and policies. Policies tend to get laxed after a week or two and I hope that this sticks with people to follow them consistanly. was shocked to learn he had overridden security procedures, and impressed this small town even had them in place! whenever guns and violence are discussed in the context of suburban or rural living, mass shootings and mayhem, people are accused of ignoring the everyday culture of guns and violence in cities. indeed, street violence keeps whole neighborhoods living in fear. and now, we, too, must consider random violence in places we hoped would be safe. i hope, this time, any "action" Obama promises will be considered and taken.

jwb wrote: Trendy to make it political Emmett . Nobody ever said take away guns but I will say that tighter control must be put in place ( not the issue here as they were moms guns). If you feel that things shouldn't be discussed now then how many more lives will it take? By the way Emmet- I am not Liberal and I agree on the Merry Christmas issue. I don't think it is a liberal stance to want to stop the violence. Merry Christmas Emmett well said.

And arenīt OFFENDED big time about your employer making you say Happy holidays instead of Merry Christmas? Yes I am.. But the law is that I need a permit & while I didn't know nor understand it, it's the law.. & my employer doesn't make me say it, just some Diplomat turned me in last year for it & cost me a check.. Idk what all it really would violate cus I'm orignally a foreigner to this country & I don't want to cause trouble.. My daughter is happy with the one I purchased to put on the mantle, so that's all that really matters to me.. I can't afford to start trouble here, it's not worth it..

~27 more angels ~
It came upon the midnight clear, That glorious song of old, From angels bending near the earth, To touch their harps of gold: "Peace on the earth, goodwill to men From heavens all gracious King!" The world in solemn stillness lay To hear the angels sing.

Robbie Parker is the model of a broken but charitable heart....and a beautiful human being. he seems to have taken on a role as a powerful healer, even in his very own raw grief. i've had several friends who have lost their teens to accidents, and they, too, have reached out to comfort others in the midst of their profound and unending grief and loss. i guess it must be this way.

Mr Parker brought tears to my eyes too. What a noble heart in the midst of this terrible loss.

Aftermath wrote: <quoted text> Bill, You have to be playing ostrich if you continue to deny the large number of female abductions along highways in VT & NH...especially NH. Someone abducted Maura....and it is my belief that you have a good idea who this guy is. He also gets rid of the occasional male.....you know... the one he sees as a sort of nuisance who is oft times drunk and staggering along the highway. Wonder how long your little charade will continue....not just you. It appears that there are others who have a fairly good idea who this guy is. Kind of awkward, I would imagine. Yes. Incredibly so. Just saw this post. WOW. I'm rarely rendered speechless but....wow. To infer Bill has knowledge of an unnamed, staggering drunk individual who not only abducted Maura...but apparently, a whole slew of people from neighboring states.... Beyond incredulity that one would even contemplate this as a reasonable scenario. Frightening that one would post it on Topix as a viable option. And rude, inflammatory, defamatory, and moronic to accuse a long-time poster of such a thing. Effing lunatics.
