The question is motive. Why was she fleeing? Another question: if she did make it out of NH alive, could Maura and her family be liable for the hours of LE working the case?

Maura could have seen the red truck from where she was near the Saturn, and walked down the road to the red truck and off they went. Regardless of what direction the red truck approached from, it would have been clear that the Saturn was on the side of the road -- it would not necessarily have been clear that it had been in an accident, the driver could have thought "Oh, she got stuck" or could have realized she spun out on the curve, but we are not talking major accident here to the point where the red truck driver would necessarily have felt he needed to check on her. Especially if he saw her out walking around the Saturn at the time he got within sight of it.

Maura lied to say there was a death in the family in order to get out of her classes. again, logically, that tells me she had a plan in place.
