As "idiotic" as this sounds....when she initially disappeared many decided she was a runaway or a suicide statistic. Even though family members and those close to her vented their frustration, stating this was not the case. They knew her best. They knew she had not run away, they knew she had not taken her own life. What I find insane is that while there were the options of runaway, suicide or victim of foul play, many then and even now continue to adhere to the 2 least likely possibilities (runaway; suicide). Therefore, I ask myself, "Why?" Why, after 6 years have passed are so many refusing to believe that she might have been abducted. This in itself is very telling....about many of these cases. Why continue with the same line of thinking in terms of investigation, exploration even though several years have passed without no answers. Why NOT explore the possibility that the person was the victim of foul play? So many continue to cling to the view that people either run away or suicide. Continuing to adhere to these two options while cognizant that remains of other victims have been found in the area seems more than a bit strange.

My thoughts on the runaway or suicide idea stems from her telling her professors there was a death in the family and leaving campus--per the UMass Nursing School Policy Manual in place at that time, she would've had to produce a docuememt that justified the leave from her clinicals. That, coupled with the relatively large volume of alcohol she purchased, her calls to Stowe, VT and the call to Salamone's condo when considered with the "upsetting phone call while working" have some convinced there was more than meets the eye going on in her life.

While foul play by no means can be ruled out, there is also the Petrit Vasi angle in Amherst,MA, to be considered.
I´m not suggesting that Maura necessarily was driving the Saturn at the time that Mr Vasi was hit by an unknown car in downtown Amherst, but a friend of hers could conceivably have been driving the Saturn at the time with Maura´s permission.
Maura´s crying episode at the security desk more or less co-incided with the Vasi hit-and-run.

Maura might have been the victim of foul play, where the perp might have been a complete stranger or someone Maura actually knew.
She might have run away and started a new life somewhere else.
She might have suicided.
She might have frozen to death and perished in the wilderness.

There are just so many possible scenarios and without any further evidence, all we can do is to speculate.
With the 7th anniversary of Maura´s disappearance coming up on Wednesday 9th February I frankly find it amazing that this heart-wrenchingly tragic case still seems to be going nowhere.
Granted, the NHSP may well know more than they are publicly admitting, but even so, the seeming lack of any kind of progress is indeed depressing.
I´m just hoping that Maura´s vanishing won´t remain unsolved after 64 years, as is the case with Bennington College, VT, sophomore Paula Welden who disappeared without a trace on the Long Trail in the Green Mountains of Vermont back in 1946.

but, you see....Maura's connection WAS to Amherst, not to Pamela, or Christopher, or whomever.
like Beagle, and i do like Beagle, who has worked so hard to make connections from Maura to certain events/people/corporations, you, also, are seeking and putting forth creative ideas that may not be valid.
and so, say what you wish....believe what you wish.....but when you dish it here, i, for one, remain unconvinced.
The fact still remains that several people are either dead or missing and most of them had no connection to Amherst. They all have their Grafton County experience in common. If you prefer to enjoy some type of fixation, maybe you should focus on Grafton County. What is there about the area that causes people from Maine, Vermont and Massachusetts to drive miles only to disappear or be murdered there...and placed in the woods? Still, for some reason you remain fixated on Maura's transcripts. Had she been a poor student with bad grades, I wonder if your fixation on her transcipts would be as strong.

Many people have things going on in their lives that are not always observable. Under how many circumstances would she have been able to leave campus for a few days, say a week, and her absence have been acceptable, excused? The purchase of alcohol was not relatively large as she enjoyed a particular mixed drink....and we have no idea if she might have planned to visit someone. Also, we do not know if she had lied when she said a family member had died. Possibly to her this individual had been like family to her....and the call about the condo...we have no idea if this was the content of her call. Her car could have been enroute to Bartlett.... That phone call may have been, "Well...I'm leaving here now. I plan to make a couple of stops enroute, but should be arriving at your place about 8 p.m." If someone is expecting me I always call in advance of my departure to let them know the approximate time I will be arriving at their place.

your argument is emotional/hysterical and remains unconvincing.
the accumulated, unrelated "evidence" you, and others, have attempted to bring forward is self-generated from the cold case list (and an earlier "map'). your conclusions are over-generalizations, and based purely on supposition in the absence of facts / evidence.

there are plenty of relevant, unanswered questions about Maura and amherst. there's a good starting place.
fortunately, you'll be less annoying when you pursue your fanatical claims elsewhere. there's a link up there at the top of the page to follow.

the brilliant, perfect, well-adjusted student/daughter/athlete you attempt to portray and defend would surely have been able to "leave campus for a few days" under more legitimate circumstances than lying.

Snowy,
Why does it aggravate you so that Maura was such a superior, young woman? HMmmmmmmmm..... If, as you say, you become tired and annoyed by my comments, you can always opt not to read them. You continue to read them so you must enjoy all the pain.... LOL

Oh please..... Given the population of Amherst, it is interesting that you and others continue to attempt to link MM to an accident victim. Not just the population of Amherst......consider the number of people who visit, pass through Amherst in a given day. Still, people attempt to connect that accident to M.

Hi Philip,
Sorry---recent change of full time employment led to some reorganizing of life in general.

If you recall the phone converstions I had, the friend that I spoke with stated that it was not unusual for Maura to just up and take off--in fact her friends were not surprised to learn that she was gone. She stated that Maura was a free spirit and that she didn't always do well with the established "rules. I don't know about the chemistry course--it is required for BSN's to take chemistry and its usually a prerequisite.

I am by no means doubting the info you got, but - WHY then would her friends at UMass be looking for her shortly after she left and be worried enough to notify UMass security? Something doesn´t add up here.
