Bill,
Interesting you say this. As you may have guessed, my belief is that someone ended Maura's life. However, I like to remain open to all perspectives. Recently, I'd been reading additional information regarding Maura as a person and mention is made of her wit...her witty remarks, unusual responses...her spontaneity, etc. Therefore possibly the death in the family she was speaking about may have been her own. She may have packed all of her belongings into boxes to make it more convenient for her family. Phoning about a condo, inquiry about motels, purchase of alcohol for a week might have made sense if she had planned to commit suicide after a few days had passed. Even providing people with a reason for her absence would have delayed any search for her. Still, for a variety of reasons, I find it difficult to believe that she would take her own life.

Yes, otherwise she's on a one way, first class ticket to homelessness, at best. Her family and friends couldn't help unless she informed them of her plans.

You've shown us your stupidy with every post. It is laughable, that you, a cretonous stench, would even pretend to cast judgement on Snowy, who is, indeed, everything you are not. As I am certain your life is plaged with problems due to your inability to comprehend or excerise logic, I suggest you tend to it.
Toodles : P lol!

I thought the call was to the Salamones' home in Wakefield, MA; an inquiry about a condo in Bartlett, NH. What difference does it make that it wasn't an automated reservation line? Where are you trying to go with this roz? Are you trying to insert doubt into the veracity of the caller's identity i.e. Maura? I'm curious.
Where am I going with it? Hopefully, I've not concluded any final destination as to where I'm "going with it." What I am doing is considering, what if the content of the call was NOT an iquiry about a condo for a longterm stay. It's odd anyone would pack all of her belongings and then phone last minute about motels and a condo. This was strange, especially for someone who was very organized. If entertaining the view of those who believe she did commit suicide, possibly she was on the cusp...not quite sure about deciding to take her own life and decided to get away from the dorm to decide what she wanted to do. She may just have wanted to spend her last few days being in a place she loved with some things she liked (a favorite drink and a good book, one that would allow her to experience adventure in the mountains). The "death in the family" excuse would have worked for her no matter her ultimate decision. First, it would have kept everyone at bay....she would have had a few days away before any search was launched. Secondly, had she decided to return, her absence would have been covered by the "death in the family" excuse....and please....let me not hear that she would have provided "documentation." People obtain "documentation" all of the time.

I remain open to many possibilities also. That is why I chafe when people insist that theirs is the only possible answer. Or use "facts" that aren't there to try to indict someone.

I have to admit I like this. It has my sense of humor in it and I hadn't considered it. I was never and am still not convinced she intended suicide but of course it is still a possibility and this is yet another interesting interpretation.

more than likely, the evidence of suicide would have been found by now. still, those actions suggest that possibility....or any combination thereof. a plan gone awry could include abduction.
abduction and runaway are possibilities, as well.
were this my relative, i'd implore friends and acquaintances from her social and academic environment to come forward; i believe something started at or around UMASS Amherst.
nothing points to convincing evidence of any theory to date; at least in the public view.

In what way would the Winans/Williams murders be connected to Maura? These killings are considered hate crimes b/c they were lesbians and the perp was already imprisoned at the time Maura disappeared.
From St Paul Pioneer Press, Apr 11, 2002:
"Rice told investigators he “hates gays” and that Williams and Winans “deserved to die because they were lesbian whores.”
Rice was indicted but evidence found at the scene where bodies were located resulted in his being released. A strand of hair found at the scene did not match that of Rice or the two women.

Once again, I am Maura. People thought I was pretty quiet over the holidays...I'm tired of keeping it all inside. I'll be seeing Dad this weekend to replace the poor Saturn, so that's a bright spot. The only thing is, now I have to go get some accident papers, I wasn't paying attention and cracked up Dad's new car. Shoot! Looks like no car in time for what I've been meaning to do. That "upsetting" phone call with Kathleen made it possible to get back to my room sooner. Councelling. They think I need councelling? Skip that! I'll pack up the room, take everything down and lay an old note down from Billy that I never did like on the top for all to see. I didn't want to talk to him or anybody really. I thought talking with Billy first and then Kathleen second on Sunday was good enough. Then Dad at 11:00. He's probably going to call me when 8 or 9 comes around and I haven't called him yet. I know he won't wait three days for me to answer my phone. He'll be calling the school, maybe they'll tell him I had an emergency. What can I say.....this is an emergency. School was cancelled due to snow, so I called whosits to return the "scrubs" and I was all set to go. I went for my money and some alcohol. I'm carrying the same black bag as I always do. My personal things are in there and people will think it means I had no intention to harm myself. Maybe an accident is what I'll do.....not sure. Shoot. I called Billy 36 hours later but didn't think I got through. I didn't use my cellphone, I used one of my prepaid calling cards that I keep in my jean pocket. No matter what I try to do I cannot get back to him. Do you know what happened?

Distraught on the job
Mrs. Rausch said Maura worked security late Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, into Friday morning checking students in and out of a UMass dormitory. Maura's supervisor that night said she found her sobbing at about 1:20 a.m. and had to help her back to Murray's room.

The source of her distress, Maura told the supervisor, was a phone conversation with Murray's sister.

Since married, Kathleen Carpenter remembers finishing a phone call with Maura at about 10:20 the night of Feb. 5, but doesn't recall talking with her sister in the early-morning hours.

Kathleen, who said she had talked about troubles with her husband-to-be during the nighttime conversation with Maura, said her sister didn't seem upset.

But, she added, Maura and Billy were having relationship troubles at the time. Kathleen said she takes sleeping pills at night and didn't remember a later call.

"We'd always talk about boy troubles. She was with Billy Rausch and every time they got into a fight or if had a fight with my (now) husband, I'd call her. It was girl talk, always late at night," Carpenter said.

She believes her sister went to the White Mountains to sort out her troubles with Billy.

"I think it was stress. I don't know what her and her boyfriend were going through," Carpenter said. "I kind of think that might have triggered it. They weren't getting along at that time.

"She wanted to go to a place that made her happy and look at the mountains, and something went terribly wrong."

__________
This implies to me that officers may have thought the sisters spoke again after midnight, w/Kathleen denying it due to sleeping pills. Also, note again that Maura was having boyfriend trouble, her sister said so and that she had to get away, that the problems may have triggered it, for Maura to up and leave like she did.

oh...my...gosh. topix is nothing when compared to peri's admitted rants at this link!! holy crap, as Wowzer would say. talk about spinning one's wheels for years!! talk about globalizing the topic of the missing and painting, always, with one broad brush. the theme of that day was to smear the media.
yes, i do recall that peri was working her magic in the chandra levy case, too. the hired psychic or something.
wow. this has no foreseeable end.
and i'm thinking the bunch of 'em may be psychically connected, which explains why it is so difficult to apply any reason, brevity or logic.
i mean...even billy rausch isn't being viewed favorably on this page. whatever. by necessity, he's probably needed to move on with his life.

I'm at security checking ID's. It's slow enough now I can call Kathleen. I'm done talking to her now and I'm getting upset. Davies says I got a call fronm within the building again, later on, would it have had to be a fellow security person calling or receiving my call? Oh God, I'm crying and all shook up. What triggered this? Kmayotte pleads with me after giving me her phone number and I just sob in her arms while she talks about going to a councellor. I can't do that, she asks me what's wrong. It's been said I repeated "my sister, my sister", but I said it had to do with my family. I was so upset, they'd have sworn there was a death or something....she wants to take Me to dunkin donuts in the morning. Everyone knows I don't drive, won't drive that car. She tried to call me the next morning but I did not answer. Maybe I didn't hear it. I didn't feel like talking to anyone. I said I had a roommate. Why you ask? Well, I'm not saying. And I didn't get walked to my dorm, just to the building itself. I walked back up alone and felt as though I were in a box. What to do, what to do. By my cell records I call the pizza place at 3:30 am. Do I get pizza or do I just talk to someone there.......... it's been a little over an hour and There is a need to make that call.
And one more thing. My friends came to find me, contacting security. They told me why they were so concerned, but you're not going to find out why. They've been told to keep quiet about this.

The above,~ just an idea of how it may have felt
