Jenkins's Ear, War of, 1739–41, struggle between England and Spain. It grew out of the commercial rivalry of the two powers and led to involvement in the larger War of the Austrian Succession. The incident that gave the name to the war occurred in 1731 when, according to Robert Jenkins, master of the ship Rebecca, he had his ear cut off by Spanish coast guards. English smuggling and resentment at exclusion from the Spanish colonial trade caused the war, but Jenkins's story in the House of Commons (1738), reinforced by the showing of his carefully preserved ear, had a tremendous propaganda effect and forced the reluctant Sir Robert Walpole to declare war. The hostilities with Spain up to 1741 were marked only by the naval engagements of Admiral Edward Vernon in the West Indies.

take a guess....prof, doc or janitor?

why do you guys even care who he is? it matters only if he is threatening you or others, but the content of his posts speak to not much more than ogling a young woman who happens to have disappeared.

now, the other janitor is more of a problem, because he is local and has suggested in the past that he wants to personally connect with others while he conducts an investigation about MM's disappearance. it's crossing the line to desire making unwanted contact with unwilling posters.

He is a graduate and works at some lab in Boston. A very accomplished, highly intelligent man. Clearly not our Bobby.. ; )

Emmett,

Bigfoot knocked Overeem out and Jose held on to the title! I predicted Aldo's win, but didn't see the knockout coming.. ; )

i didn't even go to the link. not interested in knowing who Bobby is, yet.
there are, however, problems with pursing the identities of posters. problems could manifest for individuals having the same name, or for having contact with the mentally unstable.
the business about "running license plates" is also unsettling. i'm thinking of Lighthouse in that situation.
i guess that's the "entertainment" factor for certain posters; putting their best foot forward.

I actually know a Bob Jenkins and he loves to tell the tale of how his ear started a war. In Googling this story, in search of satire, I came across a few more Bob's. I wouldn't out our beloved Bobby even if I did know who he is.He claims to have no need for anonymity, but I believe that's just ignorance speaking. ; )

back around the holidays, between thanksgiving and christmas, i had posted a handful of times just some observations and questions and thoughts on various aspects of maura's disappearance.

then i happened to read a long-timer's post to a different newcomer exhorting them to go back and read and catch up to all the information and questions and speculation and documentation that is already known or has been discussed since the disappearance. while i think the exhortation may have been made sarcastically, it also struck me as a good idea. so i stopped posting and started reading.

since then, i've gone through all nine forums at the web sleuths site, through the entirety of renner's blog, the wikipedia entry, the current mauramurraymissing.com site and myspace page, every news article that i find or come across, and am now up to page 200 on this topix thread. eventually, i will catch up to you all here at this end, and i still have advocate's archived forum to explore after i've caught up here. i just wish i could've explored the old mauramurraymissing.com forums before they got pulled offline.

anyhow, just wanted to drop in and say hi and let you all know there is someone crazy (obsessed?) enough to go back and read as much available material on maura's disappearance as can be found online. then when i come back and comment more, at least i can reduce the risk of being dismissed as an ignorant newbie.

have a great sunday and have fun watching the super bowl, if that's your thing.
