Any good cop would have also had the smarts enough to know that a person experiencing "IRRATIONAL THINKING" might "JUST HAVE GONE TO THE EAST" So WHY not check that way. Why not have Butch atwood go that way. LE(LOCAL AND NHSP), EMS and FD had just come from that direction.
MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL........
John
Think clearly for a second ok, I'll go slow. The night if the accident no one had any idea whatsup have been going on with Maura, right? You understand that correct?

They has no background of any of this, all they knew is some woman crashed her car and left the scene after making significant attempt to avoid the police. And they knew alcohol was involved.

That's it.

Of course you are making an assumption that the area to the East was not checked. How do you know that?
Isn't it possible or even most likely that either Sgt. Smith or Trooper Monaghan drove several miles East on 112 and didn't see amything then turned around? All this talk about "the East the East no one searched to the East"!!
How do you know that isn't where Trooper Monaghan went? Shoot he or Smith could have cruises up 112 to 116 and turned around in what, 5 or 10 minutes?
How do you know? Is seems a big part of your conspiracy theory is based on a complete assumption that may be dispelled simply by reading the Troopers statement, which you are not able to so.
That is some house of cards.
Smith DID NOT GO EAST as He stated and I have talked to Monaghan and He did not go to the east as well.

EAST OF THE ACCIDENT SCENE WAS NOT SEARCHED THAT NIGHT.

Now that We know that........What is the ASSumption NOW.

SO SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN THINKING IRRATIONALLY.

Right.....Right.....Give it up.

The EAST should have been searched that night....

Take a look at how they found brianna maitlands car, I would say that Maura's car was as bizarely placed, on the intersection of all those town lines. just amazing that she would crash her car at the furthest place from civilization. uh huh. So lets say that there is nothing fishy about maura's case, can the same be said about a car reared into a barn? happens alot up in montgumery huh?

John you live here. You know that a car off the road with booze possibly involved and the driver gone is certainly something that the police have seen before. Many times.
There was no hint that the driver would go missing. No signs that anyone was abducted.
They did what they were supposed to do. They sent out a BOLO to the responding units, searched the area where they thought the driver may have gone and talked to the two witnesses that called it in.
Mountain Lakes is full of second homes owned by out of staters. Seeing MA plates on the car that would have been the first direction I would have gone thinking the driver was heading back to their house.
It's ridiculous to think that helicopters, dogs and a search party should be immediately dispatched for every car off the road with booze in it and a missing driver.

A small drive to the EAST....3 to 5 miles would not have inconvenienced anyone that night. WHY not have SBD just check to the east if He was going to go anywhere.

STILL MAKES NO SENSE.....

I personally spoke to several first responders. They had stated to me the search only went to the end of BHR on 112 because they did not see any foot prints. I have always believed they were honest. And to this day I believe they were honest. Do you believe they were not honest? CS had told responders she probably went to visit a friend in the Mountain Lakes. Monahan went to the east and even talked to RO. Why did Woodstock not know? You state isnt it possible or even most likely. This is a question of yours and not a fact. I could be wrong but this most likely tells me you no nothing about the case.

So true.

you need to consider that she could have traveled anywhere in multiple different directions for as many as ?? miles? Maura could easily have made 10 minute miles at an easy jog, and since there really is no time limit where does that mean she could have gone?
3 miles? 5 miles? 10 miles? Ok so lets take 5 plus miles, in any of those directions. Now any location on any of those roads for up to and exceeding 5 miles can be your center point for a search.
Pull up google maps, plot the crash site, then draw a circle from that crash site in a 5 miles radius. Now take any point within that 5 miles radius on a roadway and try to calculate all the possible areas she could have accessed into the woods from any of those points. SO let’s just say she could only get a mile into the woods, in any direction. So draw a one mile radius from every point on any of those roads in the original 5 mile radius from crash site.

That is where Maura could possibly be. That is the POTENTIAL SEARCH AREA. Now consider she could have easily traveled 10 miles if she were motivated. Now plot a radius from ten miles out.
Now consider that in many cases, people are found WITHIN SEVERAL HUNDRED FEET of populated areas, roadways, or trails even after thorough search efforts.
Excellent point. Her body would be hard to find in an area like that.

Why should Woodstock know? By all appearances this was a possible DUI avoiding police. They did a cursory search east, had a valid reason to not continue in that direction (no footpints) and decided to look, as FrmLE said, in the populated areas since that was the most likely place to go. In hindsight, a lot of things could have been done differently. However, the police on that night did what every other police department in the US would have done under the same circumstances. They don't start a missing adult search until they know they have a missing adult. They police were not told this until almost 24 hours after the accident and started the search within 36 hours. Not bad for a small town in my opinion.

And why should they? They went with odds, having no evidence of footprints leaving the scene in any direction.

Go look @ the acc. report....Again.!

Road conditions.....Normal

Surface condition...DRY

HOW COULD THERE BE ANY PRINTS.....?

GET IT.....

BUT yet there were prints around the trunk area of the car.....NOT...The car was parallel w/ the snow bank IN THE EASTBOND LANE facing westbound.

There should have been NO prints at the trunk area.
