I have been lurking around this thread for several months and have actually managed to read pretty much the whole thing. It was tough going at times but also very entertaining. I have no ties to NH (I’m from the UK) but found this place after viewing an episode of ‘Disappeared’ about Maura. I have also read many of the Websleuths’ posting and, of course, Renner’s blog, but I think the atmosphere is better here in the cheap seats. I don’t want this to turn into a Jenkin’s-sized post, but I thought I’d thrown in my tuppence worth regarding Maura’s disappearance. I am really not sold on the tandem idea as, even with the family’s level of secrecy, I think the tandem driver would have been identified/ come forward/ been missed by now. I also find it hard to believe that Maura would deliberately stay hidden all this time - particular when her mother was dying. Although it is not as exciting as some of the theories, I think the most likely explanation is that Maura, fearing a DUI, left the road, hid somewhere and, sadly, succumbed to the elements. I know people have pointed to the mild conditions that night, but drinking alcohol can cause you to lose heat more quickly. With regards to the dogs losing Maura’s scent, often used to support the getting picked up idea, Fred did point out that the gloves used by the handlers were new (a Christmas gift) and Maura seldom wore them. This, added to the time that had elapsed between her disappearance and the search, may explain why they could follow her scent no further.

Also, while I’m here, I’ll just to wade in a little with the current debate re: John Green. I think John needs to learn a little humility. I can see why he would be a little defensive, he’s taken a few big hits here, but his condescending attitude is endearing him to no one. I am particularly turned off by his habit of insulting someone and then adding ‘just tweaking’ or similar. It’s immature and passive aggressive in the extreme.

I am surprised that you still believe MM succumbed to the elements after reading this entire thread but you are not alone and it's as valid as anyone's thoughts on it. Sad to say we may never know what really happened but that does not stop us from postulating on it incessantly. Glad to see we haven't drove you off with our behavior and hope you stick around and join in the fun.

To those in the USA. Have a great Memorial day Weekend. If you are traveling, be careful. Remember those who gave their lives to protect our freedom.

Snowy, Respectfully, I disagree. While I do agree that I made a mistake exposing Granny/JWb as far as precedence goes, John Green is anything but anonymous and indeed begs for contact. He has put himself out there quite literally and has made statements concerning his experience without providing proof when asked. I give James Renner this; He is right out there in the open to be seen and his credentials have been posted in numerous places. John is no anonymous poster, but an attention hound who, for better or for worse, is getting the attention he came here and asked for. In fact, he came here slinging manure and the mucking of his stall is but a kind duty that any diligent farm hand would feel compelled to perform.... ; )

welcome advisory - beware the Stalking Committee, loosely formed and fluid. find a friend; choose one of similar mind and outlook, and trust no one else. time will be the best teacher and prove your hunches and intuition to serve you well. and polish up your sense of humor to bring along on the journey of The Pointless Endeavor.

JWB tortured others with threats to reveal identifying info and was reported to Topix and the local police. i don't care to know the details of Green's life, or i'd look for them myself. i am not amused today.

Tang is proficient at mucking his own stall...! On occasion, some of the farm help feel inclined to help him with the occasional overload, but, in the end, he's like a self cleaning oven. Can't contain his own dirt and burns it off for all to see...He has been verified as a stand up, legit PI by Granny though, so.... ; )

Glad to see we haven't drove you off with our behavior and hope you stick around and join in the fun. Thank you for the kind welcome (Snowy B too!) although I must admit I’m a little disappointed by the welcoming party. Did I mention I read the WHOLE thread? The least I expected was a few balloons. Did JWB drink all the punch before I arrived? The reason I have stuck, for the moment at least, with the Maura wandering off and succumbing to the elements idea is simply because it seems the most logical. As I have already mentioned, I don’t think the tandem thing is credible and the idea that a local or a passerby abducted and murdered Maura just seems too much of a stretch. A rural setting, snowy conditions, early evening... Maybe I just don’t want to believe someone could be that unlucky. I agree that we will probably never find out what happened to Maura and that’s very sad. We will never get the answers to all our questions but her family deserve closure.

I'll dance naked on Youtube and post it. Although, that's a compliment. Fred Leatherman did some good stuff in his career. I never met him but it just so happens that he was associated with a community interest firm that somebody I knew in law school started. John He is probably still wearing that bracelet. House arrest.

The triple-decker, student rental/party house on Phillips St., Amherst MA, likely frequented by Maura Murray, was owned by an autobody person. The mortgage on the Phillips St. house was held by an autobody person. Vasi's life-threatening injuries, sustained 2/5/04 on Triangle St., Amherst MA, are consistent with having been hit by a motor vehicle. Maura Murray's father's Corolla was crashed 2/8/04. Maura Murray's father's Saturn was crashed 2/9/04. An autobody person (BSG) saw damage to the Saturn before the Saturn left Amherst and was found abandoned shortly thereafter in Haverhill NH. The same autobody person (BSG) who saw damage to the Saturn also saw the damaged Corolla. Police inspected the Corolla after its crash. The first PI to investigate Maura Murray's disappearance was a certified expert auto crash reconstructionist who does work for Amherst Appraisal, an auto crash appraisal company. The PI's office has been located for the past few years exactly next to, in the same building as, Amherst Appraisal. Amherst Appraisal's 2004 office abutted the property of the Hadley motel where Maura's father was a guest.(Amherst Appraisal and the PI's office still abut the motel's property line.) The Corolla was, according to a Hadley MA police officer, towed to the Hadley motel where Maura Murray's father was a guest. A post on Topix, in 2008, stated that, according to an anonymous autobody repairman (BSG), the Corolla was inspected by area police. This post was followed hours later, after dark, by minor vandalism to the poster's property. ********** Lots of motor vehicle related stuff going on here.
