Wowzer and others can speak to the love of the mountains and the culture of northern NH. southern NH has more of a Boston feel. i am partial to ocean and find Boston suburbs with access to NH and VT do-able. we think we'd love to relocate to Charleston or surrounds, but we might, similarly, experience culture shock. how i love the ocean.

well, now i'm even more motivated to record those Boston musicians with their little dog that sing Clapton in the depths of the Orange Line, even in the heat, and keep contributing to them.

Thank you! I'm partial to being near the coast myself.. Being from Mondello Sicily, we were right on the shore line, maybe 8mins from downtown Palermo.. Then to NY where I was used to the snow & decent summer weather.. I love the mountains & right now I'm at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mtns but for some reason the humidity here is awful! It's been this way the last 7-10yrs that I can remember.. It didnt used to be this way!! I don't have a snowmobile but we have 3 ATVs.. I know the winters can be harsh, but it would be so nice! Even if its upstate NY where I go.. I just done much research about the White Mtns way before I ever heard of this case.. To me, it seems I would have everything I like up yonder: lakes, ponds, Mtns, ocean, trees, snow, great schooling for my daughter, several great Catholic Churches to pick from, great Ivy League colleges for my daughters future, etc; basically everything we've ever wanted.. I don't know which state, but it will be the upper east coast cus the schools are not great here, to much violence, highest unemployment, really nothing for kids to do...my main concern is my daughters future & I'm quite certain it isn't down here! On a side note, I read the article you linked me to & it was a heartfelt story.. I've read a Lil watching y'all talk about it on here but didnt know it was like that.. Very sad.. I might come off as a "thug" sometimes, especially in the past, but that's not me.. I would have been a drill sergeant if I weren't wounded in Iraq, so I guess I have a short temper but very disciplined... Again thank you so much for two huge replies today! Have a blessed day!

I love it here. Wife kids dog and 2 cats moved here to Haverhill in early 05. Was the best thing for the whole. Have yet to meet the dangerous and shady characters. Much to the chagrin of JG, granny and Shack, everyone I have encountered has been friendly and courteous and downright neighborly. I am sure if I wanted to find dangerous or shady people, I could, here or anywhere, but why would I want to? You will usually find what you expect or hope to find.

It's kind of sad that because you love living here and think the people are friendly, courteous and neighborly that you are judged as being clueless and nuts. Here if you give a smile you get one back and if you are friendly and courteous you will be treated with the same. Neighbors still help neighbors . It's the way life should be. Too bad that some think it's nuts. They are the ones that are clueless.

That would make it exactly the correct word and context. Right? I mean tell me I am missing something here. You aren´t missing anything and you´re not an idiot. It´s just typical JG.

Some people get their kicks from focusing on the negative, to the point of not seeing any positives. To hear Shack, Jenkins, Granny and now John Green paint a picture of the area as some seedy underground for crime is ludicrous. This is in the top 3 for the safest place in the USA and has been for more than 50 years that records have been kept. I understand John Green's angle, he has to make it seedy since that is the slant his "article" is taking, so he will promote the area as such to help himself. To make a name for himself he is going to rape the area around MM's disappearance just like MM's family has. At least the family has a somewhat valid excuse. I do not understand people like Shack and the others, who have spent a considerable amount of time in the area or live here, they should know better, and should be ashamed of themselves for the way they talk about it. Haverhill, all of NH, is a beautiful place to live and the northern part of the state is peaceful and unbelievably safe. I have never feared for the safety of my family and have never second guessed my move here.

I was born in Buffalo, NY, not far from the Peace Bridge to Fort Erie, Ontario. When I was in 8th grade a girl in my class was murdered in the house across the street from me. Beaten to death with a hammer. Turns out she was a prostitute. 8th grade. My family moved to the southern tier shortly thereafter. We lived in a very small town, population 1600 or so, about 60 miles south of Buffalo. It was within a 20 mile radius of St. Bonaventure University, about the only place of note in the area. It was also in the snow belt, lake effect snows off of Lake Erie, I am no stranger to snow. I remained in that same town until I moved to Haverhill in 05. It is much colder here in winter but the snowfall is minuscule compared to where I lived in NY.
