If Renner was upset with John he should have handled it between the two of them instead of bringing innocent people into the mess.
Yes Columbo has said many mean things in the past and may have helped fuel the fire on this but Renner is supposed to be a professional and should have known better than to drag this business into the middle of the trouble between he and Columbo..
If that makes me a sheep or bamboozled as some say then so be it.
And yes I may have misspelled a word or two here. I don't know for sure because I'm not going to go over everything I write to correct a mistake or two on an internet forum. Not everyone is the best of spellers but that certainly doesn't mean that they are stupid.
Life's way too short to worry about the little stuff.
Wowzer, that was not directed at you personally, nor anyone else. I just did not expect to see everyone rally around him while he is experiencing his own dose of karma.

I dislike this Renner character. I think the guy's a creep. The day his book hits the shelves, one of you folks really ought to scan it and publish it on the World Wide Web. Catch my drift? ;)
The rest of you folks ought to take the cue and download it A.S.A.P. Still with me?
Instead of lining the creep's pockets, donate the cost of the book to a charity! Play your cards right, he'll sell one copy to the entire Topix team. That's all from me for now Franconia!

[QUOTE who="Ridiculous"
Calling someone who has worked as a character actor at a family run tourist attraction a carney is an attempt at discrediting both the person and the business. The connotation is intended to add some sleaze to both.[/QUOTE]

Ridiculous - not trying to fight with you and I get your rationale, but please note "Det" Columbo has made numerous comments about someone wearing an anklet on this forum mainly because he didn't like his theories.

JR attempting to make "Det Columbo" less like a detective and more like Mr. Bojangles was an awesome play. So now when he makes one of his BS statements unsupported but ( backed by his great work as a PI) hints to guilt of LE. Family members of LE and other readers can now know its just Mr. Bojangles at one of his tricks again.

I'll tell you what since you care so much about CTP being mentioned. You apologize to those that you have made garbage remarks to, or have insinuated of being involved even though you probably had no evidence to think such a thing but decided to suggest it on a public forum. If you apologize I'll send an email to JR and offer a "donation" to get that name removed.

So really you will be committing two good deeds with one post. Why wouldn't you take me up on this offer.

Just my opinion.

And your sleazeball fckn opinion is a piece of sht.

You pretend that Renner's intention was merely to pillory DC. It wasn't. DC does that fine all by himself. Has for years. The only reason CTP was brought into it was, ostensibly, to pressure DC into silence by trying to smear an innocent third party.

CTP will likely survive without scars, but the slightest attempt to soil the reputation of a local, family-owned business - one that attracts many children - by implying that CTP employs sexual deviants is lower than low.

It is a malicious attack not only on the business itself, but also on its many wonderful employees, its visitors of all ages, and on the community as a whole.

It recalls the attempts by Murray family proxies to attack the North Country tourist business. Now, apparently, that job has been farmed out.

points well made.

i never bothered to respond to his repeated accusations about the "ankle bracelet", chiefly because i don't have irrefutable proof that his statement is untrue, and also because it takes considerable energy to clean up after his irresponsible, reckless online conduct.

he doesn't mind negative attention, but i trust his recent popularity has been an unexpected, delightful excursion. he's never, once, apologized for, or even qualified statements he's made in the name of MM.
he is, in fact, different from JR to the extent that JR has retracted some of his unfortunate, careless statements and accusations.

my opinion.

It´s amazing how the MM case seems to have come full circle with the latest developments on Renner´s blog. The Ducks all over again. I guess one involved party is as good a turd thrower as the other.
the Duck stuff was scary because it was fresh and in real time, with every opportunity to directly impact lives and reputations of innocents.

the conversations at JR's blog are slightly less shocking today because, for the most part, they are revisiting, dissecting and rehashing old news. you're right….a full 360. the add-on feature of witch hunting drives the vehicle.

and so on, and so on…..
yeah, you get it.

yes, a good point, but i don't excuse DC.

i bristle at the support DC is receiving for his whining when, in fact, both have been toying with each other about the "Wolfman" character, which, in itself, brings negative attention to the business owner.

both are wrong….i'd say equally wrong….in the despicable way they've used / involved this family business.

It should be clear to all who have followed along on topix I am no member of the Columbo fan club, but I think Renner was very wrong in this. Renner seems to have made it his mission to find out posters identities and out those he doesn´t agree with, which is absolutely disgusting. As a professional journalist he should at least pretend to care about free speech, and not try to silence those who disagree with him. His blog seems to be more about posters than Maura Murray.
I certainly don´t agree with everything Columbo ever posted, and God knows there has been some nasty stuff, but that´s not what´s at stake. As for the company involved, I can´t see the point in Renner´s attempts to put them down or even involve them because Columbo were once an empoyee of theirs.

So many here seem to be almost gleefully taking this opportunity to attack Columbo, and therefore turning the conversation away from where it should be, on Renner's continued actions to hunt down, defame, and reveal personal information about anybody that criticizes him. Some of you actually defend Renner's tactics, on the grounds that Columbo deserves it, in your eyes.

I wonder how you would feel if it was your good name, your face, your employer, your friends, that were attacked in the same way? All because you expressed criticism and anger at what you perceived to be unwarranted attacks against people you knew or even complete strangers? And when you tried to voice those opinions, you were defamed and silenced?

But wait ... that's what happened to many of you on the old MMM forum, right? You've been here and on other forums talking about it for years - not being able to state your opinion if it went against the "Murray family line," and being banned for stating that opinion. That anger is still right here today, that anger at being silenced.

But when Columbo does the same thing, it is not only OK for his voice to be silenced at Renner's blog, it is OK for Renner to publish not only his personal information, but to try to make Columbo look like a pervert and drag in yet another innocent party completely unconnected to anything in this case and defame them as well. It's not only OK, it is right and just. It is not only right and just, it is a time to shout, "ha, ha, Columbo, see what you get for stating your opinions, karma baby, karma."

I am glad that some can see beyond their grudges against Columbo, who, although they have no love lost for him, still stand up for what is ACTUALLY right and just. They are able to stand back and address the real, important issue of a "journalist" who will stop at nothing to RETALIATE against anybody who criticizes him, who will BLACKMAIL somebody by saying if you don't play nice, I will continue to bring harm to those innocents who you have some connection with until you shut your mouth. I will post photographs of totally unrelated innocent people that I believe are you, until I recognize my error, then, without admitting that error, without issuing an *Update* to announce that error, I will quietly switch out the photograph of the innocent party to put in a photograph of the actual person that is pissing me off. I will make up relationships that don't exist to make you look worse.

The enormous difference between anything Columbo has done or said and what Renner does is the degree of INFLUENCE each has in the world. Not to add to his already huge ego, Renner is now one of the people who is always interviewed about Maura Murray. That public exposure gives him a large audience, and the things he says, true or not, will reach many people. Without condoning anything Columbo may have done in the past, his opinions were confined to a few forums - his reach was small. There is no comparison at all to the harm Columbo may have caused and the harm Renner is capable of causing.
SnowyB wrote:

When? Once? Twice? The number of Renner's non-retractions dwarfs any feeble attempt he has made in a couple of instances to "retract" his "unfortunate, careless." false, mean, cruel, false, vindictive, petty, manipulative, false, obsessive, paranoid, false "statements and accusations."

Again, thanks to those who kept their eye on the ball.

your hatred for Renner is personal; the mutual hatred you share for each other is palpable; your defense of Columbo doesn't convince me that his intentions are any more noble or despicable than Renner's.

their perceived spheres of influence are insignificant; the world does not revolve around MM or Renner's blog, but that is just my opinion.

personally, i'd think Renner has better things to do than to be spiteful, but, hey, i've seen those tactics played out before.
