I've mentioned this before but I think worth mentioning again. The Hadley accident and the Weathered Barn crash have similarities. Both 90 degree left hand turns, both seem to indicate the driver began to react early to turn.
In other words, maybe the brake line was tampered with in both cars.

The manner of the red truck per RO suggests they were looking for someone without a vehicle.

well, thank goodness L4M is a truth-teller, along with WTH and Wowzer...forced to repeatedly stand and correct the record, over and over again.
it is amazing to see unverified information reintroduced as "facts", along with the endless loop as commentary around the myths developed and retold over so many years.
it was, and perhaps still is, hopeful to believe Renner can break through all this nonsense.

HUH? Downtown Woodsville lol, OK they do have a Walmart. I remember Woodsville when there was the Coach and paddock, and the little diner on main st and the restaurant with the bear in the window. That was Woodsville, with the addition of a Walmart they are now on the map.

I could have sworn I read that the Brother that had the knife said that his Brother was on his deathbed and confessed to a murder or was vague but said he was involved in something not good, the guy died and then the Brother brought the knife to Fred. Isn't that the story? One of the Brothers is dead, that much I remember. The girlfriend probably still alive, not sure what her name is. Does anyone live at that house now? I recall it was for sale and very overgrown.

Lets think about this a little. If Maura was in Haverhill when she had her accident. We have to ask where they were going to meet? If it wasn't Haverhill, how would Maura be waiting for that mystery person to drive by, to be picked up? If she contacted them when they were on I-93 near Londonderry? That was the scenario I was trying to understand and was questioning. How could the person know that Maura was there so she could wait there to be picked up by s/he? That person would have to divert, wildly to pick her up. How would they know?
And yes, I am certain the lie about the dead relative was to throw friends and employers off about her actual intentions. I have no doubt about that.
Bill
Take your pick of places, Bill. It is known that she had been searching for motels in Vermont. Why Vermont if she knew the Bartlett area so well? Why not find a motel somewhere north of the Boston area or even in Boston. Friends indicated she had disappeared before to the Boston area without alerting friends she was taking that trip. Seems to be a large circle or should be around the area of Londonderry NH, north of Boston area and Boston? Maura had spent time with family each year for several years in Bartlett. What happened to her on Route 112 on the evening of Feb. 9, 2004 may have had absolutely nothing to do with the person of interest who may have or still resides somewhere within the large circle indicated above. Think of entire global land mass and then consider the probability of her receiving a cell phone call from cell pinging off tower in Londonderry NH on the same day she disappears never to be heard from again. She had phoned the Wakefield area earlier, same day (Feb 9, 2004). Think about the connecting lines from Amherst MA to Burlington VT to Bartlett NH to Wakefield MA (area north of Boston). They all have someone in common. Maura.

From what I have read, Fred did call LE but they shoed no interest in the knife so he mailed it to them and has not heard back.

<quoted text> She could not have seen the SBD coming until he turned the corner and she was caught in the headlights. It seems you are not familiar with the area.
There are many times a drinker will leave the vehicle if involved in an accident so they can sober up before speaking to LE.
A friends son and a friend were drinking and rolled their car over not far from where Maura went off the road. Before the police or FD got there no one was around. Yes it does happen too often.
Wowser,
Surely, even if she had the windows up on the Saturn, she could hear the approaching school bus. Hey, just the smell of gas or diesel fuel alone would have alerted her a big yellow taxi was headed her way. Regarding your belief that all young people run off if they've been drinking. They do not. Even a lot of older folks stay with their vehicle. Case in point: Wasn't there a LE officer who took off in his vehicle in attempt to avoid being arrested by one of his officers? One of his deputies? Now he didn't want to be arrested, but the man stayed with his vehicle! He resisted but stuck with his sinking ship (in this case vehicle). So some people whether intoxicated or not, no matter their age do not always abondon their vehicle.

Again, speaking from experience. I have seen it over and over. When you arrive on the scene of an accident with no operator on the scene. Ninety nine percent of the time the reason no one is there is because they were legally drunk and they ran from the scene. When there is alcohol in the car, opened, splashed around inside. It is one hundred percent of the time.

When you hear hoof-beats think horses, not zebras and certainly not unicorns.

OK. So if I understand this, you are attempting some type of geographical profiling of a perp or friend of Maura's? Is that what this is? And yes, I am trying to understand.

And just to be clear. This still has nothing to do with the theory that she was waiting to be picked up by this person. That still makes no sense to me.

What if Maura did indeed get into a car - willingly or not - on Rte 112 close to the location of her wrecked car.
After a while she might have realized that she had got herself into a very dangerous situation.
Did she perhaps somehow manage to get out of the car and was she possibly the person running as supposedly witnessed by the construction worker RF some 5-6 miles east of the Weathered Barn curve in the vicinity of the Rte 112/Rte 116 intersections?
The supposed find of hairs and duct-tape in pretty much the same general area by a hunting previous poster on this forum (Matthew, IIRC) paints a potentially disquieting picture.
Bumping for Maura,
The predator is someone who has great strength and he travels alone. He knows the area including woodland areas of Vermont and New Hampshire to a greater degree than most people. Very familiar with highways (Interstates and otherwise, including roads where people are told travel at own risk)in both states. He is familiar with the mountains and parks. He's in great shape. Not all of the "Missing" and murder cases in Vermont and New Hampshire are connected. The great tragedy is that too often they are seen in this light. L. Winans, once a participant in outdoor program, Sterling College and T. Reed, Assistant Registrar of Plymouth State College were both brutally murdered (Winans in the outdoors, Reed in her apartment). Some might say these two women were not victims of the same predator while others might disagree.

From Hanson Express Feb 2008

Murray is looking for a few specifics from the New Hampshire police. He wants to know why the report of the state police officer on the scene isn’t being provided to the public. He wants to know what’s happened to a bloody knife he turned in as evidence, and a section of carpet a team of private investigators found at a nearby house. He also wants the police to ask the FBI for help.

jwb,
Well said. Years ago I camped solo in the Adirondack Mtns and if staying overnight would slash a few branches for a "roof" of sorts. Small, but somewhat protective shelter . Look at me today. I'm now camping on this site, far removed from my Adirondack days.

I don't think anyone is saying that her running off is not a possibility. It is quite possible and maybe probable, but at the same time other possibilities do exist and should be looked at.

Just putting myself in Mauras shoes for a moment. If I were to want to get away from the car while I sober up (assuming she was drinking) I would either walk up BH road or Go west towards the more lighted area and find a spot to hang not going to far from the car. Going east would be the last direction I would go because being pitch dark. I might consider going east only if I knew I was eventually meeting someone in that direction. my thoughts if it were me in that spot.

My understanding is that the FBI had offered to take the case involving Maura, but their offer was rejected. FBI limited involvement had been allowed, but was restricted to a few interviews at Amherst. Does anyone know if this is true and if so, why was offer rejected?

Snowy,
Mr Renner seems to be stuck.
I don´t consider it likely that he shall be able to get anywhere far in unravelling Maura´s case.
Initially I had some hopes that he just might have a chance to do so, but IMHO he seems to be following a rather blinkered course in his investigations. A shame.

With no new leads, FBI joins search for missing student
By Peter DeMarco, Globe Correspondent, 2/20/2004

The FBI has joined in the search for missing college student Maura Murray, but without a single lead
in the nearly two-week old case, New Hampshire authorities said the additional investigators might
not make a difference. Murray, a 21-year-old Hanson native and nursing student at the University of
Massachusetts at Amherst, vanished the night of Feb. 9 after crashing her car into a snowbank on a
rural road in Woodsville, N.H.

Police in helicopters and with their dogs searched the area for a second time yesterday, but with no
evidence that Murray fled into the woods, her family and authorities believe she either hitched a ride
and is on her own, or was abducted.

Hanson Express:

Murray said an FBI agent did come to Hanson to talk to some of Maura’s high school friends, but that was only after the family asked directly.

A Boston Globe report published Feb. 20, 2004, states that Boston-based FBI agents were assisting on the case “at the urging of Murray’s father, Fred.” Other newspaper reports cite Lt. Scarinza as saying the FBI was being asked to help with background checks and family interviews.{sidebar id=2}

Additionally, an editorial from a local TV news station, dated June 18, 2004, refers to a conference between the FBI, New Hampshire and Vermont State Police in the city of St. Albans, Vt., in early June. That meeting was to discuss Maura Murray as well as Brianna Maitland, another missing young woman. However, FBI officials in Vermont later said they could not confirm that they were actively involved in the Maura Murray investigation, according to a report in the Caledonian-Record.
