It is tough to drive a car with THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED....Just Saying. It can be done w/ caution....but in haste or panic...Ooooops.

No she didn't witness anything. She said she heard it on the scanner. I'm still in awe on how she can remember a simple accident on a scanner weeks/months later and remember the time and what was said by dispatch, police etc. It sure did get her lots of attention though.
I didn't believe it back then and I don't believe it now but that's me. Everyone has to form their own opinion.

Yes it would be quite hard to drive with the airbags deployed I think although I've never had an airbag deploy while I was driving.
Wouldn't that just prove that the accident did indeed happen on that curve since that's where the ride ended for the car and Maura?
Am I missing your point about the airbags? Not sure what you're trying to say.

I am sure scanner activity is rather slow in that area so it really perked her interest and probably caught her by surprise as activity is sparse (just guessing)

Kind of a silly forum I'm posting. If you have patience with the first post, you might be able to read the rest. In a nutshell, it's talk about driving after your airbags have been deployed.

I think you've got a false premise. I'm not sure a dozen zombies would actually deploy your airbag.

Anecdote:
In 2001, I was in an accident.
An impaired driver ran a redlight in front of me.
I began to brake, and we more or less collided front left headlight area [mine] to front of hood.
I was in a 1996 Chevrolet Caprice Classic, a 4100-lb sedan [1]carrying 600 lbs of passenger and cargo.
She was in a 2000 Ford Escort ZX2, a 2500-lb sedan [2]. Barring substantial trunk contents, I'd guess the vehicle was carrying 200 lbs of passenger and cargo.

Her vehicle's radiator was smashed, and her airbags deployed. The hood and the parts under it looked pretty well screwed up. She was crying.

The Caprice had a broken headlight, a slightly bent fender (still drivable in a pinch, but tire was slightly rubbing the fender) and the hood was bent. Also, the air cleaner box was basically intact except for one corner. Not only was I not crying, but the only part of the accident I felt was the part where I pressed very hard on the brake pedal.
My airbags didn't go off, and despite having just totaled a motor vehicle, I could have driven away without any concerns except for the fender messing up my tire.
Based on that, I'm not seeing hitting a zombie as something that would deploy your airbag.
Maybe if they were a bunch of football-playing zombies in a huddle or something.

It appears from the blog Renner´s source was a member of the responding EMS crew who saw the car in situ.
I believe Saturns have had EDR since the model year 1994. It should have information on the last 5 seconds leading up to the crash.

well, we've visited this one before, haven't we?
and when there were questions about gaps and inconsistencies in the telling of the 'story' there was little satisfaction or resolution.

The damage to the hood and light assy. of the saturn was caused by something other than a snowbank and caused the airbags to deploy.

I apologize...The car did hit the snowbank with the lower spoiler part of the car...but it did not hit the trees at the scene.

I believe the saturn had a previous accident (ignore scanner call theory) a short distance from where the car was found. This is when the airbags deployed and the car STILL BEING DRIVABLE was driven in a panic to the location where it was found.

The car was seen by the Acc. Recon. at Troop F in Twin Mt. This along with the pics and several hrs. spent at the scene helped in making their determination.

It was also determined that "The car was drivable"

Did he examine the EDR? It would be pivotal to any definite determination of how the accident happened.

I apologize...The car did hit the snowbank with the lower spoiler part of the car...but it did not hit the trees at the scene.
