Snowey quote: "but, newcomers came along to join the party...with open hearts and compassion for MM and her family. they were unwelcome; the impetus was and is to prove MM a victim of abduction and/or homicide. still is. in fact, there is little to no evidence to suggest that is true, even if a possibility." well, there it is in a nutshell right from the moderator herself.Newcomers were un welcomed because they wanted to discuss another angle than the so called "Regulars" AKA Snowey,Wowzer,WTH. In other words if you don't post the same ideas the you will be squashed. Show us the proof that she just walked away and mystery solved. Still waiting for some sort of helpful give and take on your part but you seem to be stuck in some sort of time warp of the past.

I wonder if the FBI hands their info over to police. And who would get it? Umass or NH? it's hard to believe her contact with MM was dismissed or overlooked, or even that the decision to offer firsthand information would be left up to Mayotte herself, isn't it? it makes sense that the info was received and recorded somewhere along the chain.

Still waiting for some sort of helpful give and take on your part but you seem to be stuck in some sort of time warp of the past. don't twist it...i'm speaking from firsthand experience...of being "unwelcomed", along with others, during the Topix heyday. lots of hostility on behalf of the ducks against joiners. since then, it's fallen apart for them after original posters with good intent began to see tears and holes in the "party line". all in all, my personal observations over the years have become fundamentally aligned with whiston's quests for info about MM's life prior to her disappearance, especially because MM's "friends" and "family" on Topix have fiercely protected (and intentionally distorted) what little info could be discerned as facts. "red herrings" ~ Mason's pursuit. it is a mystery of longstanding with very few facts verified in the public domain. lots of damage to realtime "victims" of ducks in MM's name, however. and so we sit and wait. detached. the past is very much a part of the present. Suzanne might agree...along with a few more. enjoy our day. i'll enjoy mine. although i have been known to vigorously criticize him for delving into MM's personal life...

Snowy, is that a subjective assertion that I have 'multiple monikers'? Delivered in a subtle somewhat underhand manner too? Where are your facts? Your evidence? Do you keep it in the draw with your 'overlord of teh interwebs' badge and pointy hypocrites hat?

Also, for the uninitiated, what the devil is a 'duck' and what history that moniker? Is it something to do with oranges?

Just my personal perspective, but I don't see the value in investigating who is who-and-who-else on this forum. Difficult to prove in the first place that this poster is or was also that poster, and why does it even matter? The discussion here is for the purpose of trying to assist in finding what has become of Maura, and -- I've said it before -- ideas that come up here may well have value to LE or PIs or whoever else is actively involved in the investigation.

Advocate, I agree with everything you say. At the very heart of the matter is a young woman who is missing and the friends and family who live with the lack of her each and every day. Had she have disappeared before mobile telephony and prior to the birth of the internet, those that knew of her would have slowly lain a blanket of empathy and reasonable assumption over her dwindling memory. And those that knew of her through TV, radio and word of mouth would be far fewer than those who know her name today. On the plus side, the reach of information is broad enough to embrace the world and news travels fast. Sympathy, detective work and curiosity help raise unprecedented awareness and missing people can and are found quickly as a direct result. However, it's also easier for conspiracies to grow and for people to claim a sort of 'ownership' over someone else's tragedy because they get something themselves from the status they achieve as head of a forum family. It's a fine line between moral decency and moral panic just as it is between doing the right thing and being self-righteous. There are clearly some very balanced, rational people here (as on other forums) but I do think it's pertinent to make the observation, as an outsider, that this tragedy is not the property of a forum but is, instead, very human. It's a sad thing when people's egos eat their empathy. I sometimes think people are so determined to see their own opinion validated that they come across as wishing the most brutal and terrifying end possible for the poor girl and I find the voyeurism a bit disturbing.

Which matters more to you: the distressing fate of a missing young woman and the sorrow that has caused for people who genuinely knew her or being among virtual friends, as part as an online gang, where you can feel empowered through the playground-type name calling and group ousting of anyone who isn't a card carrying member of your particular club?
