IMHO it sounds to me like Fred knows exactly why she came up here and knowing that, he feared from the start that she wanted to commit suicide. It seems he was uncooperative right from the first phone call to him by LE. The big question is why???
Lots of games going on, lots of old characters making an appearance. Lots of baiting.

Something was brewing, but I don't think she planned to end her life. IMHO.

So....YES it can happen even at slow speeds. If being towed at approx. 20 to 30 MPH and coming into contact with the towing vehicle it is VERY POSSIBLE.
Once this happened at the corner Maura as well as the person towing new that had a problem. The truck driver then convinced Maura it would just be best to get out of there.
And YES a tow strap or chain could shear off the bank. I certainly wouldn't want to be in the path of either cause it would probably kill You or come close.
Think people....
Wowzer....is there only one person who owns a red truck on BH rd. 116.? I never said the truck was red in this post either. Thank You
Now or back then? And since you have mentioned a red truck on BHR numerous times why would I possibly think now you would be talking about a purple, green , yellow etc. one?
I will say that red was a very popular color back then. Not so much now.

I'm wondering how possibley this all took place and no one saw or heard it. One person was at their window peeling an orange and another looked out when they heard noise of the car hitting the bank. Maybe this truck was invisible??
Oh, the person you're talking about in the secluded house doesn't live on BHR and if he brought a kicking screaming girl home or even an unconscious one there's no doubt in my mind that his wife would be just a bit upset with him.
Question... wouldn't the car or tow truck had to have been on the bank in order for the strap to be also on the bank with enough tension to shear off the bank?(I highly doubt a strap can shear off a bank)
IMO it makes absolutely no sense.
it's an endless loop, isn't it? something familiar will be up next on the playlist. thank goodness for a voice of reason.

Maura was approached by Butch IN her vehicle. I have never seen a vehicle being towed with a driver in the vehicle.

Regarding the Amherst angle:

According to what I´ve been reading through the years the people living on the same floor as Maura in the Kennedy dorm at UMass Amherst hardly ever saw her there. They barely knew that she had a dorm room on that same floor.

It certainly looks to me as if she was more or less regularly living somewhere else while in Amherst and that she possibly went to see someone in the middle of the night before taking Fred Murray´s new Toyota Corolla back to his hotel in Hadley,MA.

Did such a theoretical nocturnal meeting possibly have anything to do with the Vasi hit-and-run case?

Did the person with whom Maura was likely staying most night perhaps work at the "secret", unnamed art gallery where Maura was working part-time?
Possibly.

Did all this (if true) have any bearing on what happened to Maura after her accident at the WB curve in New Hampshire?

Again possibly, but not necessarily.
Her subsequent disappearance could be part of a ruse which originated in Amherst or it could be completely unrelated to what came before.

I often disagree with Snowy, but she is right about one thing.
We just don´t know enough to make an educated guess what actually happened. The variables are just too many and the possible explanations seemingly endless.

Very frustrating for us here on Topix, and likely as frustrating for LE, not to speak of Maura´s suffering family.

Maybe not but from Renners blog evidently her father thought so.I have to wonder why that's about the first thing he said. WHy would he even think that right off unless he knew what she was so upset about. Something just doesn't add up IMHO.

Some here have a very rich fantasy life. They hear unicorns everywhere.

There is so much wrong with most of the assumptions in the last 10 pages it isn't even worth going through it. It does cause one to chuckle though and at times outright belly laugh.

I'll wait until the fantasies bubble down to a manageable level.

I will say this. Many of the people here should try writing fiction for a living. They wouldn't be that good at it, because none of theories match the known facts. But mos of you certainly don't care about known information. What makes for good fiction is the possibility of something being true based upon the currently known facts. In all of your cases, you totally dismiss all the known facts. You just run through fantasy land letting all the stupid and denial branches hit you on the way through. Not a way to investigate the disappearance of a dog, let alone a person.

I think he changed his stance because he knew that LE would not put any effort into finding Maura if they thought she was already deceased. They would just wait for her to turn up. IMHO.

Thanks for clarifying. My apologies if I made anyone believe you were the one to bring this guy´s name to this forum last summer (IIRC), that was not my intention. Someone with the moniker Bill and a NH zip code brought his name up.

Wonder where the Kahlua went?

Maybe in the backpack. Stop for a coffee before heading up to Bartlett and add a little to your java to keep you toasty? Get it black and add a little to your coffee in the ladies room?

Of course if that's a possibility then where did the coffee come from? McD's, Dunlin Donuts or gas station/convenience store? Or did MM have a coffee thermos with her?

I found this part of the Scarinza interview interesting:
That Saturday, Fred Murray appeared in Amherst. "They went out drinking, her and her father and her friend. Father goes back to the hotel. Maura has his car. Gets in an accident. Why she doesn't get arrested then is beyond me".

This too:
"And she's headed to her father's hotel when she wrecks. She has a dorm room. It's weird."

And I believe we now can put to rest the issue of what licquor was or wasn´t on the receipt:
"She had purchased Kahlua, wine, and a six pack of Seagrams. The box had splashed all over the car. The bottle of kahlua was not there."
Doen´t seem she had bought ingredients for a Mud Slide after all.

In fall of 2000, he was not married. At some point between fall of 2000 and fall of 2003, he married. Separate vehicles to the Burlington area in case an accident occurred? Dates for major transitional periods in their lives match. In my opinion, he had nothing to do with Maura's disappearance, but upon arrival near the accident scene, he may have seen who did? He kept driving for good reason. He was caught and remains in a Catch-22 situation? Yes, I believe so.
In his Post #2, Beagle made an interesting and foundational observation.

Apparently You have not been around very long then. This would not be a pro tow truck, just a truck. And if towing with a chain or strap You need someone to control the car.
