Bumping for Maura wrote: Regarding the Amherst angle: According to what I´ve been reading through the years the people living on the same floor as Maura in the Kennedy dorm at UMass Amherst hardly ever saw her there. They barely knew that she had a dorm room on that same floor. It certainly looks to me as if she was more or less regularly living somewhere else while in Amherst and that she possibly went to see someone in the middle of the night before taking Fred Murray´s new Toyota Corolla back to his hotel in Hadley,MA. Did such a theoretical nocturnal meeting possibly have anything to do with the Vasi hit-and-run case? Did the person with whom Maura was likely staying most night perhaps work at the "secret", unnamed art gallery where Maura was working part-time? Possibly. Did all this (if true) have any bearing on what happened to Maura after her accident at the WB curve in New Hampshire? Again possibly, but not necessarily. Her subsequent disappearance could be part of a ruse which originated in Amherst or it could be completely unrelated to what came before. I often disagree with Snowy, but she is right about one thing. We just don´t know enough to make an educated guess what actually happened. The variables are just too many and the possible explanations seemingly endless. Very frustrating for us here on Topix, and likely as frustrating for LE, not to speak of Maura´s suffering family. nor do i usually agree with you...but living away from the dorm, vasi involvement, and perhaps a relationship via the art gallery all seem like possibilities to me, as well. i'm a little disappointed Scarinza has as many questions as the rest of us, but heartened to read the search was thorough...and he is satisfied it is unlikely she ran into the woods. it's a very sad and compelling mystery.

There is no evidence to support otherwise that it wasn't her. Isn't that is what snowy would say?

Beagle wrote: <quoted text>I think DC is referring to rent-a-cops as less than regular cops, like summer cops used by resort towns, auxiliary cops, part-time cops, trainees, academy recruits, etc. Towns on the Cape, for example, use rent-a-cops for about 90 days during the summer season. They are specials, not regular cops. UMass may actually utilize part-timers, interns, etc. as specials, but the bulk of their department is regular. See their website. Regular cops, like those at UMass, can make mistakes, behave unprofessionally, just like any other cop. I agree, it seems unusual that they never released Maura's picture, but maybe they have good reasons. And maybe they did show the pics to at least one person in Maura's family but told them to keep quiet about it? Just don't know. Beagle, you already responded to that post when you where in NJ, I believe..lol. I asked a family member (former LE/detective)about the Umass police identifying Maura & not the family. I did not give the whole scenario, just asked why they would not let family positively identify her. With little info, they stated that there may be something incriminating in the video that they do not want family to see.

Father goes back to the hotel. Maura has his car. Gets in an accident. Why she doesn't get arrested then is beyond me". Scarinza isn't the only one in LE who has wondered about this.

I think her hair was down because she was just punched in the face by the airbag deployment. That can and has broken noses and detached retinas. It certainly can mess with someones hairdo. Bill

Det Columbo wrote: About 4 yrs. ago My friend who owns a business in Littleton was backing his volvo wagon up at approx. 10 MPH to the dock area where He was gonna pressure wash it. Upon doing so He rammed into the wall with the rear bumper of the vehicle. This deployed all the airbags in his car to the tune of $1400.00 replacement costs. So....YES it can happen even at slow speeds. If being towed at approx. 20 to 30 MPH and coming into contact with the towing vehicle it is VERY POSSIBLE. Once this happened at the corner Maura as well as the person towing new that had a problem. The truck driver then convinced Maura it would just be best to get out of there. And YES a tow strap or chain could shear off the bank. I certainly wouldn't want to be in the path of either cause it would probably kill You or come close. Think people.... Wowzer....is there only one person who owns a red truck on BH rd. 116.? I never said the truck was red in this post either. Thank You Saw one that wasn't used much on BHR in 2006
