What he said is consistant with possible scenarios all along, she may have been abducted and killed, she may have committed suicide, she may have left and started a new life, she may have been abducted by Aliens in a UFO,.. All things are possible, because no one knows, right? I'm so flattered that you call me "dear." You must be Nancy Grace. IF "all things" are possible, it is not especially helpful to dismiss and ridicule anyone and everyone who wonders if she might have met with foul play. I've said before and am saying yet again-she may have met with foul play, she may have run away. If she ran away, it's too bad, but people do that. If she was a victim of foul play, there is a perpetrator out there and they can do whatever until they are stopped. The CT Valley killer was never found (no matter what LMC says). It happened before, it may have happened again. Bad for tourism, I'm sure, but not so much if LE catches the SOB.

I too find it very interesting that when he/she posts it is in a manner stating a fact, not speculating or proposing a theory. This happened, that happened, its such a bunch of bullshit to post in such a manner. Fact is he or she doesn't know, just guessing. Might as well be writing fiction with your posts. Fairly absurd really. well, it's nice to add another logical mind to the short list. aftermath's posts are preposterous; i've been consistently objecting for some time now.

Fred Murray called Haverhill P.D. "What I was told was that the first thing out of Fred's mouth was,'She's gone to the North Country to commit suicide, to go off and die like an old squaw."

"The killings presumably stopped after a botched attack in 1988. 22-year-old Jane Boroski was attacked outside a convenience store in West Swanzey by a man in a Jeep Wagoneer. He stabbed her 27 times and left her to die. She managed to survive and was able to provide police with the sketch of her attacker (above)." ~ http://mauramurray.blogspot.com/ "Jane Boroski attack The killings remained unsolved and had apparently stopped when, late in the evening on August 6, 1988, 22-year old Jane Boroski, seven months pregnant, was returning from a county fair in Keene, New Hampshire when she stopped at a closed convenience store in West Swanzey to purchase cola from a vending machine. Boroski returned to her car and began drinking the beverage when she took notice of a Jeep Wagoneer parked next to her. Via her rear-view mirror, Boroski then saw the driver of the vehicle walking around the back of her vehicle. He then approached her open window and asked her if the pay phone was working, at which time he immediately grabbed her and pulled her from the vehicle. Boroski struggled, and the man accused her of beating up his girlfriend and asked if she had Massachusetts plates on her car. Boroski responded that she had New Hampshire plates, but this did not deter her attacker, who proceeded to stab her 27 times before driving away and leaving her to die. Boroski managed to return to her car and drive on Route 32 toward a friend's house for help. As she neared the house, she noticed a vehicle driving in front of her and realized that it was her attacker. Boroski finally reached her friend's home at which the occupants immediately came to her aid. Her attacker apparently performed a u-turn and slowly passed by the house as Boroski was tended to before speeding away into the night. Boroski was treated at the hospital, where it was determined that the attack had resulted in a severed jugular vein, two collapsed lungs, a kidney laceration, and severed tendons in her knees and thumb. Fortunately, Boroski's baby survived, although not without complications; Boroski's daughter would later be diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy.[9] Boroski was able to provide authorities with a composite sketch and the first three characters of the attacker's license plate." ~Wiki well, it is without any judgment that i mention the likely presence of this person on this forum, today and in the past. and it is without judgment that i suggest the "agenda" surrounding serial killings is colored by the view of a would-be victim who escaped death, and that her intended fate by a serial killer has been projected onto MM's disappearance.

um, jwb, I notice the quotations in your post "I was told that..." Fred said. That is not the same as "Fred told me..." A very big, very significant difference. WHO heard Fred make the comment about "the old squaw walk"? to whom was that comment addressed? in years and years, I've never heard that question answered. If the only person who allegedly heard Fred say that was Sharon, that casts many things into a very different light for me. If a third-hand "quote" sent LE in a direction different than they would have taken without such a "quote," I think that is important. Many things that I've questioned about how LE handled this case look a whole lot different if they were given "information" by someone presumably close to Maura that they took at face value.

anyone reading, what if Fred DIDN'T make the "old squaw walk" comment? does that change how you view all of this?

Absolutely correct. But there are many people who want to read WAY too much into that standard protocol. Bill

He saw a Red Truck with MA plates looking for Maura? Maybe MM got off I-91 because of car trouble and called Red Truck with MA plates (from a pay phone or another cell phone) that she was having car trouble and he went to meet her? But before she got there a perp abducted her? Perhaps Red Truck was the MA paramour not the perp.? Frostman, Yours is quite an interesting theory, IMO. How might a theoretical perp have known about Maura having suffered an accident? Very possibly by listening to a police scanner while prowling the neighbourhood. The window of opportunity would have been quite small timewise, but itīs certainly not beyond the realm of possibilities. At the same time there is that supposed quote by Maura as mentioned in Mr Rennerīs previous interview with, IIRC, Mauraīs coach at UMass Amherst: "I wish I could just disappear"... That would certainly point towards a voluntary disappearance by Maura. Yet, on the other hand what might have started out as a voluntary disappearance might have developed inte a case of foul play due to totally unforeseen circumstances. These seemingly contradictory factors donīt automatically cancel themselves out, which makes Mauraīs case so confoundingly difficult to grasp without any further hard evidence. Based on what we know right now, we can only speculate.

I'm guessing he meant the local police but he also becomes vocal about the trooper. He's known to question those police by saying "what did your guys do"

Oh, and by the way. Police might have good reason to keep putting it out there that nothing happened to Maura...that she ran away or wanted to end it all. Just another strategy to keep what they really think from any possible suspect, if there is one?

If you Google map Woodsville to Bethlehem the obvious route is 302 to I-93, but Rte. 112/116 is also given as an option. Perhaps MM decided halfway up I-91 that she didn't have enough money to go to Stowe and that Bethlehem was an option? She had keys or maybe knew how to get in? Maybe somebody did call her en route and convince her to meet him up in Bethlehem? I'm not suggesting family necessarily, but possibly someone who had been at a/the party? FM might have thrown out Bartlett as a ruse so people wouldn't go snooping around up in Bethlehem. Also Goshen could have been thrown out there as well to confuse people? Goshen... Goshen Road? Gary Merriman and wife lived near Boston(Sagamore?) and owned a vacation house in Bethlehem. I believe the wife still owns it, not sure though.

I'd venture to say that most people -- in general -- don't know about that oldtime Native American tradition (in some tribes, not all).

That would certainly point towards a voluntary disappearance by Maura. And WHY did she wish she could "just disappear"? Apparently this was not something she said a week before she did disappear, she said this some time previous. It suggests that she didn't feel her life was going very well, so possibly she had not been happy for quite some time before February 9, 2004.
