FrmLE,
Why on earth are you getting so worked up?
People are bound to have many different and differing ideas and theories, and we just dont have enough facts to say with any kind of certainty what might have happened to Maura.
Bashing each other on the head is not going to be a productive way of achieving anything whatsoever, IMO, and that goes for both camps here.
Bumping for Maura,
"Worked-up" is an understatement. Actually, because the Saturn had not been impounded any evidence found once it was hauled off from where it was positioned on Route 112, is compromised. If you notice, I in no way indicated I'd visited, sat in or had driven the Saturn....and yet FrmLE has me there at the scene, wherever the Saturn currently sets. Our kind friend, Mr. FrmLE, has a little problem with the "T" word....temper. Easily agitated, and goes quickly into the "attack" mode. Why? My assessment is because he has been attacked on this forum on more than one occasion. Mr. FrmLE, have a nice, cold glass of ice tea and calm yourself. What I did do and most recently did once again was to look at photos of the front windshield of the Saturn and two others looked at them as well. They have experience in auto-body repair and have seen a lot of wrecked cars w/damaged windshields. So please, Mr. FrmLE, cool your jets and sip a little ice tea. Please.

I have to take some exception, while I have seen this trait in Law Enforcement officers,I have seen it with many other professions as well. The thing is LE has to base a case in court on FACT! Due to this they tend to operate on fact, gray areas don't hold up in court and a grand jury usually won't indict based on hear say or gray area evidence. Do they think outside the box, sure but they have to dedicate their focus on what evidence they have and on past experience and statistics which bear out the highest percentage of likely hood.
Second I have found that usually the answer to many things is SIMPLE, sometimes answers are so simple they are easily overlooked, and some refuse to believe in the answer. Do LE's make mistakes, sure and I feel sometimes due to the daily onslaught of seeing mostly the bad of society its easy to get jaded.
Look at scientists, some of these people are the worse offenders of black and white syndrome. Just bring up the UFO topic in the scientific community and see what you get! Having been with Air Force Space Command most of my career, having been an adviser on battle staff and disaster preparedness for years and having one on one contact with those in the know I beg to differ with these scientists. The sheer definition of UFO is Unidentified Flying Object, it doesn't have to be from another planet, its just FREEKING UNIDENTIFIED!!! We all have our opinions and biases, its called being human and that's what makes us interesting, and annoying.
Very well said NHwoodshome.

Regarding James Renners new post today featuring his interview with former Lt Scarinza of the NH State Police, I found it interesting that Mr Scarinza himself finds it amazing that Maura wasnt arrested or in any way "punished" when she crashed her
fathers Toyota Corolla in Amherst, MA.
Another thing concerning this nocturnal drive:
Apparently Maura left the party she was attending at around 2.30 a.m. but suffered the car crash at around 3.30 a.m. despite the very close distance between her dorm and the location of the accident. Still it took a full hour from her departure from the party until she had the car crash less than two miles away.
Did she perhaps go somewhere else in the meantime?
According to Beagle local LE apparently took an inordinate interest in searching and checking out the smashed Corolla at a local body shop.
Why was that so?
Ideas anyone?
What if the Corolla crashed before the party Saturday night?

Maura's friends described her intent to drive to her father's hotel room to speak with him at such a late hour as odd.

Investigators say Murray probably left in another vehicle

By Elaine Allegrini, Enterprise staff writer

HANSON — The 21-year-old college student who disappeared after a minor car crash in New Hampshire last week probably left the area in another vehicle, investigators said Thursday after a search near the crash scene failed to produce evidence she had walked into the woods.

...If she entered a vehicle to get away from the scene, as police believe, they wonder if she knew the driver or if she went with a stranger.

In defense of the good detective, the chances of him meeting anyone in a restaurant are nonexistent. Egg roll throwing or not.

It's like Harry Potter threatening to douse Hermione in hot and sour soup. Fictional characters can't ACTUALLY DO anything off the page.

It must be difficult to feel your have to be on point duty all the time. I know a few retired LE. Most of them are eager and open to discuss a cold case hoping something comes the fore that hadn't been considered in the past.

You've got a bee up yer kilt over this one. It might lead some to conclude a similar disappearance happened on your watch?

NHwoodshome,
Speaking of fatigue, it would seem that after a fairly stressful weekend taking a trip to VT or NH would not have been in the stars. Even though I believe she was abducted at the four corners, I'm willing to hypothesize about the chance of her sauntering off into a snow-covered woodland after dark. Personally, I do not believe she would have attempted to flee even if she had been drinking alcohol. Consider that she'd been at a late night/early morning party where alcohol had been served that weekend, had left early and was then involved in an accident with her father's Toyota. It takes little alcohol to fall into the range of receiving a DUI/DWI. If she had been the drink & flee kind of person, it would seem she would have bounded off into the darkness at the time of the Toyota accident. She had not. The Saturn had been full of gas? Nearly full? So she may have stopped for gas and used a restroom. Otherwise, had she driven all of those miles without heeding nature's call (had she been drinking the quantities of alcohol people seem to believe she had been drinking)it would seem reasonable that she might have walked off the highway to urinate. If she had been drinking, was cold, etc.....seems this would have been a possibility. Still no tracks heading into the woods near the Saturn...and according to the dog, Maura's scent stopped at the intersection. Even if she had stepped off the highway into the woods and became turned around, lost....she would hear traffic on highway. There would have been no reason that she would have had to walk a mile off the highway to urinate, especially in the dark.
Good point about the Hadley accident but I wonder if circumstances didn't give her the opportunity or she was too shook up as it seemed to be a more severe crash. Maybe she felt she could get away with it there because she knew someone. She obviously didn't want LE involved in Swiftwater as she told Mr. Atwood she called AAA and didn't want him to call LE. This tells me she wanted to avoid contact with LE.

Complete and utter Bull. You had NO ONE look at the windshield, lol, what a joke! How did you do this, just run up to Troop F, pop inside and ask 600, 601, or 602 for the keys and drove it to a 'few body repair guys'? Yeah that happened, what a crock.
Another Liar.
That isn't my quote about the windshield, though early on I was an advocate of her possibly having hit her head, I now have my doubts.

The Saturn as the Crime Scene?

There were red stains on the ceiling and on the drivers side door (paraphrasing) as per the accident report. Mr. Renner also noted red stains on the ceiling of the Saturn when he looked in the car in summer, 2011. If the red stains were wine stains and the wine spewed forth from a Coke bottle with a 1 neck, how much staining could there be on the ceiling? Wouldnt wine have landed on the driver? Mightnt MM have wine on her or be toweling off some wine when BA came along? Would BA have been able to see staining on the deployed airbag?

Perhaps the wine was spilled when a perp. pulled Maura from the Saturn? That would make the Saturn THE crime scene.

Does anyone know why the Saturn is still at Troop F? Is it being held so that DNA might be extracted as forensic techniques are becoming more advanced? Or so that it can be used as an exhibit in a trial down the road? Or is it that FM cant bear to collect it?

The SATURN is USELESS at this point....it might as well be crushed for what value it has now.

The Saturn once it left the scene on the tow truck lost any value ( as far as the chain of custody ) unless it was followed by LE to Lavoies where it was stored.

How long was it between the time Lavoie picked up the vehicle and LE saw it again? Was it inside a fence or garage? Did Mike go straight back to the garage or did he stop at McDonalds for coffee?

Once the car was left outside for Fred Murray and his family to see then the vehicle lost all importance. The car was even offered back to Fred. That would have been convenient if He took it then Lo and Behold.

Then NHSP wants the car taken to NHSP troop F for storage. Certainly some strange goings on with the Saturn.

I AM NOT saying Mike Lavoie did anything wrong and I definitely don't think He did, I was just using the trip back to the garage as the first chain of custody (IF there was to be one) mistake.

We know Smith remained at the scene for another Hour or more...so He didn't follow it back.

Consider the possibility of the Corolla being damaged before/during the party.

I agree with Beagle this direction to the hotel would have not been my first choice, but my first choice for a secluded intersection. Police report from Hadley accident accident, depicts the Corolla going nearly head on into guardrail. Whereas actual damage was passenger side.
