It seems to me that you are very cleary implicating some kind of rogue LE person prowling the area.
Now, if that were indeed the case, there is, I believe, one pertinent question to ask:
If, and I stress if, this marauding rogue LE person was theoretically responsible for Maura´s disappearance, then why haven´t there been any further similar vanishings (to my knowledge) reported in the VT-NH area since Maura disappeared nearly 8 years ago?
I find the timeframe here difficult to reconcile with your theory.
May I also add that there are women that walk and jog these same roads everyday in winter and summertime. In the summer there are many young women riding bikes on these roads. I've seen several lone women thru the years taking breaks at Beaver Pond on 112. It's miles away from the nearest house and yet none of these women disappear.
I have a really hard time believing there's some rogue LE or serial killer traveling these roads looking for a lone woman to abduct. There would be a whole lot more missing if that was the case imho.

About Me
I was a felony criminal defense lawyer in solo practice for 30 years specializing in forensics and the death penalty. I split my practice approximately 50-50 between federal and state courts. I switched to teaching law in 2005, and have taught Legal Research and Writing I and II, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Torts II, Wrongful Convictions, Prisoner’s Rights, and Trial Advocacy.
In November, 2007, I blew the whistle on the Dean and Assistant Dean, owners of the Barkley School of Law, a privately owned for profit start-up school Paducah, KY where I was employed as an Associate Professor. They were running the school as a Ponzi scheme skimming student loan proceeds for living expenses that were wired into the school’s general operating account by the lender, Student Loan Express. The school is now defunct and mired in bankruptcy litigation. I have been looking for other employment without success and am now a member of the 99ers, who have exhausted their unemployment benefits and been consigned to starvation and ruin by President Obama and the Congress.
Who cares? What is the point of the discussion you are trying to have here. He was a logical contributor to this forum years ago and he no longer contributes. It's no wonder why. If you don't like what he said then why do you bring him up.

Thanks for that but I have to ask what possibly does this have to do with MM? It sounds to me like he should be commended for what he did.

Don't you know that it is highly more probable that it was someone who was closer to her (family, very close friend) than anyone else. This is LE 101.
The first POI will be the person who had the most contact with her recently.
The same group solved the infamous Zantop case.

Tom, what if you were to take the same scenario you just mentioned, but account for the seeming chaos and panic and confusion that surrounds it. Maybe this wasn't a getting away trip (and a casual meet you at the gas station), but a running away trip. Running away in fear with POI hot on the trail. A "flurry" of activity. Real stakes involved. Secrets that run deep.
Rod,

I at first wanted to believe she was running away. Nobody wants to ever think somebody died.
If she was running away she would have waited for the other paychecks she had coming to her. But if she was running away from someone why would she stuff a rag in her own car? This won't help the performance of a car on the fritz. If she was being persued when she broke down there is no way she would have waited by the car and not asked Atwood to call LE after accident.

And again if someone snatched her it would have been difficult to place the rag up the tailpipe of the car.

WTH,
FM a suspect? You've GOT to be kidding. Evidence? There isn't any...and even if there HAD (note past tense)been, it was compromised because the Saturn had NOT been impounded and the "scene" even before the car was hauled off to a local garage was not treated as a crime scene. LE appeared to believe the Saturn was just an abandoned vehicle (it's driver disappeared to avoid a dwi?????) like the many situations they deal with throughout the year. There have been many disappearances and bodies discovered on both sides of the VT/NH border, bodies found in the White Mountains and disappearances in both states. So one of the father's of the MANY victims is responsible for these disappearances and/or murders? Do you have any idea of just how ridiculous this sounds to suggest MM's father may have harmed his daughter? The problem is no one has been identified because the someone abducting these women has ABOVE AVERAGE knowledge of how to leave "accident" scenes CLEAN without a trace of evidence behind. He also knows just how long he has to remove each of these women from the scene where he abducts them. In Maura's case, he snatched her from the highway in that fairly short, 15-minute period before C. Smith arrived on scene. There are never any witnesses and in P. Webb's case...there had to be many people who drove by that scene (it was a busy highway and in broad daylight!) when she struggled to get away from this guy....and yet no one stopped. No witnesses came forward. There is a mystery road warrior on the loose and he continues to cruise the VT/NH area and periodically travels the NH/ME border area.
apples and oranges. your desperate, hysterical attempts to connect random, unrelated homicides over many years to MM is nearly delusional BY WAY OF your insistence to "know" what is clearly UNknown.
your view is clouded by your emotions that drive your imaginings and disordered thoughts. i have no expectation for you to think rationally or to put forth logical thoughts any time soon.

Bumping for Maura,
Without checking my notes, I know there is Ms. Maitland in addition to Maura. Brianna's car was found but she has never been found. There have been several other disappearances as well. In my opinion, the guy who is abducting and murdering these women (some bodies have been found)has either military training, police training or a combination of both. This does not necessarily mean he is a member of law enforcement (there are a lot of wanabee's out there). He has had some type of regimented, very disciplined training (I've even considered the possibility of martial arts training given how quickly and quietly these women are removed from where they were last seen). He is in good physical condition. Whether he is self-taught or was actually involved in LE and/or military remains unclear. Whatever the case, he possesses some highly developed skills, especially people skills. In considering common denominator regarding some of these cases, it is evident this guy possesses a specific skill set that the average person does not. It is apparent that he has clear insight as to how long it will take LE to arrive on scene. He may have access to a scanner but in any event it appears he knows where members of LE are based, where units are located and if they were called, how long it would take for them to arrive on scene. He also has superb understanding of VT-NH system of highways, including secondary road, etc. Appears to love wooded areas and not just because they provide good cover. He may be an outdoor enthusiast. This seems highly likely. His motive is nonsexual; he appears to be fueled by ego, competitiveness and rage. He's also tossing a few things into the mix to cause confusion.

I didn't say she ran away, but that she was running, and then its anyone's guess what happened afterwards. Probably frightened rather than shivering. Even if you knew the person who was going to pick you up, you would probably be on edge if you had just crashed your car (intentionally or not). The combination of flurry of activity and rag in tailpipe always made me think that someone else was there and that person was not abducting her, and that she was going with this person willingly, even if hesitantly.

1) she did run away - from UMASS.

the motivation and reason for her leaving/running is unknown, but is obviously key to every aspect that follows up until her disappearance.

2) fast forward to the crashed, abandoned car found in NH.

there are too many variables in between these two anchoring occurrences...stop here, please....<1 and 2>

to do little more than speculate...or wildly speculate about the backstory to her final disappearance.

if this, then that doesn't follow without a foundation of a fact-based orientation to the mystery. LE holds all the important cards....as they should. the rest of this is just passing time, and the entertainment factor. plain and simple.

Snowy,
You have no proof that she ran away from UMASS. No proof exists that she ran away. In fact, it seems clear she planned to return to UMASS or she would not have provided an excuse for her absence to supervisors and faculty. "Obviously Key?" The key point is that there is absolutely no proof that she ran away. In fact, her leaving messages w/an excuse for her absence is only ONE indicator that she planned to return. There were others as well. You didn't like Maura, did you? Your envy of her shows in your manyderogatory posts.

I believe his point is clear. Right at the beginning of his post, he writes: Masoninblue About Me. There had been some previous comments on this forum as to his true identity, and it appears that the intent of his post was to address this issue.

Snowy,
If you read my post...and then yours, it becomes crystal clear who is "hysterical" and the types of posts that elicit your great bursts of hysteria-based, pent-up wrath....and another point, why are you pasting your same previous responses to posts? OCD? Talk about anal retentiveness! What you do not know and for obvious reasons (LOL) DENY (hint, hint), is the level of your hysteria. You might consider seeking help, but your level of denial prevents you from doing so. I encourage you to keep complimenting Bill as this is your forte, your area of expertise. Male-launched emotional strokes will keep you rockin' for a few years. Your "cut and paste" ventures in which you attack other posters have become old and boring. Maybe request a new script for Bill or Wowzer. That would be an indirect compliment to them, so you might even follow this suggestion!

To anyone who actually believes Snowy's Runaway
Theory:
Why does Snowy believe MM ran away from UMASS? Maybe Snowy helped Maura pack her belongings and clean the dorm room? She assisted MM in running away? Snowy then became perplexed with what to do with a cleaning rag, but being the organized doer of good deeds, decided to use it to polish the interior of the Saturn's tailpipe. In the process, the rag became lodged and you know the rest of the story... If you do not, just ask Snowy. She will cut and paste appropriately.(If you believe this little skit, then you may also enjoy and believe Snowy's "runaway" theory).

I don't think Maura was "running away"...I think she was merely taking a short break....I can certainly identify with that....AND, there was mention of Maura planning to buy tickets for an event within the week. I believe it was related on video.
