Someone who looks similar to maura murray. At night, in the darkness, bundled up and unknown to the witness Hmmmmm. What are the chances. Very good.

Others here might have already been privy to that but I was not and that now rules out the sbd as far as i am concerned.

jwb wrote: This, really makes it clear that maura was still there after the SBD left and to me rules him out. The activity in the trunk may have been the rag Agreed. Nobody really thinks SBD was complicit in any way do they? I think the poor man was badgered and people started blaming him for not helping more and he was really hurt by those accusations. Understandably so. If it is perceived that his story changed (and I really doubt it), then it was probably only so he could get some bloody peace from those who were haranguing him. JWB, could the "activity in the trunk" be Maura looking for the spare tire after one was slashed or trashed? BA, SBD might not have noticed that the driver's side front tire was flat if the Saturn was wedged up against the side of the road (car facing WB in the EB lane). Maybe she was on her cell, attempting to call AAA and trying to get out the spare when the perp. "happened" along? Didn't you do an experiment with a rag in the exhaust and it just flew out? Wouldn't you need a potato or something solid to cause a stall? Someone else here wondered awhile back if she wasn't interrupted by her foray into the trunk and just popped the rag in the tailpipe in the meantime. Perhaps she was just using it to clean grime off her hands? Or to wipe up spilled wine... although I don't buy the "drinking wine in excess" theory. If you had been drinking while driving and left the vehicle you'd either pitch the booze or hide it in the wheel-well of the car (in the trunk)... not in plain sight on the backseat.

Given Maura's running excellence they probably were specialized and expensive footgear and something the family would have wanted have the public be on the lookout for. Reading between the lines on this thread, I don't sense that many posters here believe anyone was running 5 miles down the road, not even a stray Sasquatch. JMObservation. And she didn't know for certain the police had been notified of a crash. I understand and I don't think she was running for five miles either, but that was an "eye witness" report.

She would have had to ditch her back pack that would have been found because she was running on the road. Maybe she went down the road a bit then off into the woods?

Maybe Maura placed the rag in the exhaust herself and wanted to tell the police that the car stalled and that is why she crashed? Maybe this would take the attention away that she was drinking? If that was the case, she eventually changed her mind and took off running. Then the RF sighting would be more creditable.

Bill You've said before that people walk away from abandoned vehicles in northern New England all the time and nobody worries or notices -- it's commonplace, a rite of passage so to speak and LE just breezes by and treats it as a normal, benign, run-of-the-mill type evening, and is justified in doing so. Now you're suggesting someone was "BD" not to know police were probably en route. Did you actually say "BD"? It's Friday folks... gird your loins!

I did do the rag in the tailpipe and it spit out immediately. My take on the rag is maybe maura put it there to indicate a breakdown as opposed to putting in the window. She was after all only 21 and might not have known better. As far as a flat goes, I don't know any solid info on that. That was Columbo saying that wasn't it?

I am afraid I don't even understand the question or your point. First, I have never said people run from abandoned vehicles. I said that people who have alcohol on board have a known tendency to run from crashed cars. They weren't abandoned until they ran from them. And yes, if you crash your car, and you don't think that the police are going to show up, as well as fire and EMS, you would probably be considered not too savvy, i.e. brain dead. Bill

If the rag was jammed up there than she wouldn't have placed it there to show break down it couldn't be seen. And if the rag would spit out immediately from your exhaust then that means it was placed after the accident. Could be the murder weapon.

Why did she need to ditch her pack? It was dark and it would have been on her back, not easy for the CW to see driving past. If it was her I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if she was actively trying to evade any contact with anyone. She may have come in contact with CW either in a spot where she couldn't get off the road due to terrain or thought that she was safe enough at that location to not worry about people coming from the other direction. maybe, perhaps, if, presumed, assumed, might have, could have, would have, should have. no one is any bit closer to an answer than nearly 8 years ago, and imaginations run wild. in fact, all are unwilling to compile a set of basic facts as a starting point. why? because no one can. there is the challenge.
