Happens all the time. Seen it literally dozens, if not hundreds, of times. Saw one scene where the person had shattered an ankle by being thrown out of a car during a rollover. Shattered so bad it was flopping around on the end of his exposed bones. He tried running from the scene also. Got about 20 yards before he finally just flopped over, the physiology of his injuries just didn't allow him to continue. Oh yeah, his girlfriend was also thrown out of the car. She was busted up pretty well also. Seat-belts keep that from happening. Both survived, though I know they will have reminders they will carry for the rest of their life.

Adrenaline and alcohol, tremendous combination.

re-reading what I said.. I think its highly possible that she got in a vehicle.. She coulda took off running, & someone else stopped & she jumped in..

she took time to grab her bookbag - so she was thinking a lil bit, so I would say she wasnt "drunk", just maybe could have failed a breathalizer..

3 hours from home, in the freezing cold.. my first choice woulda been the SBD.. SBD- "You need help?" Me- "Hell Yea!! Sir, Ima student, I dont need trouble, PLEASE just let me sit & dont call the po-po"

Idk .. maybe it where ima man.. but sbd's are usually decent people, they may yell but my sbd, I see him atleast a few times a year at the post office & he remembers my name, & is nice.. Mr. Carter.. Its the transit drivers that sometimes are more apt to evil, as I know for a fact, that for years, they transported dope from Port Authority NY to Atlantic City NJ..

Happens here regualry Bill! I have friends that have outrun the po's & their dogs!! Your last line was a theory of mine, & I wrote over 1000 words but was never posted at renners.. thats why I came here, so I could say what I wanted when I wanted.. I compared it to when I had a wreck in the freezing cold, sleeting everywhere in the middle of the night, & I ran, behind houses, in the woods, on the road, through yards, & made it over 20+ miles home, still drunk.. lol..

Add, NCCA Track Athlete to the end of your sentance.. & it was what one of my orignal theories was...

Anybody that has worked as police/fire/ems knows it happens all the time, in any kind of weather. It's never the sober that run - ever. There is no doubt in my mind that she ran, and she ran because she had been drinking. I don't think she was fall down drunk, but I am sure she would have failed a sobriety test and more important, she thought that she would have failed it. That is why she ran. Add all the other things going on in her life, and its hard to make a determination, at that point was she so overwhelmed that she decided to commit suicide, or did she just screw up trying to evade and succumb to the elements. Either is possible and probably most likely based upon the evidence. Just my humble opinion.

Re the Hadley accident with the Corolla ... why didn't Maura get cited for the accident? Alcohol may in fact *not* have been involved, since some time passed between when she left the dorm party and when the accident occurred -- and she may not have had much to drink anyhow at the dorm party. So not being cited for a DUI doesn't say anything.

But she did lose control of her vehicle. Was she not cited because the only damage was to the vehicle she was driving? Was she not cited at the scene but a charge may have come later? Was she not cited because there was ice at the intersection and she slid straight through it due to no fault of her own?

my understanding is "inatttention". that is a generous determination in MA, imo, especially where there is significant damage to a motor vehicle. road conditions would be indicated on the report. i don't have easy access at the moment.

the debate rages years later...more questions than answers.
for what it matters, perhaps JR can catch the ear of anyone attending the party to answer whether where she may / or may not "have had much to drink".

so, now, what are getting at, please?

if it is true that she had 2 major accidents in nearly as manner days, what does that tell us?

I actually loved Columbo, that was my GrandFather's favorite. Mannix was good too. And that other one where they always said 'This tape will self destruct in ... seconds'. Mission Impossible, that's the one.

Arrested Development was the last show i loved. Gone now, but not forgotten.

Maybe little Rebecca of sunnybrook farm could give us some answers when she is done kicking the soccer ball around.

I've wondered about that and whether Maura might have been texting and driving? Pure speculation on my part.

If some time had passed between when she left the party and the accident, could you by any chance point me to a source for that? I hadn't heard that yet.

Amy, they didn't text as much back then. She could have, but now it's just the thing to do. Seems that in 2004 the younger generation was still just e-mailing and calling. Lately texting and driving have become dangerous and the 'thing' that kids do.

I didn't realize the first accident 'was major' I guess you have to define 'major' yes the car was beaten up pretty badly, but supposedly no one was hurt.

Just me--paris "Maura was fearless"Honestly Just me no one can say what Maura was and was not fearful of. Only Maura would know this. Wtnesses said a person was at the trunk minutes before LE came. It was dark and witnesses said they saw someone at the vehicle.
