I have read that the rag was stuffed quite some way in the tailpipe and that it was apparently quite clean when found.
If this information is correct I very much doubt that it could have been visible from the outside.
It would be interesting to know who found the rag stuffed into the tailpipe and when it was found.

Another thing:
I was re-reading the excellent and detailed Whitman-Hanson Express article series by Marybeth Conway on the MM case the other day.
It´s probably the best summary available out there and one thing kind of stood out in the part of the series headlined "The Accident".
Ms Conway states that there apparently were at least two witnesses who stopped and spoke with Maura at the WB curve, one of them being the school bus driver Mr Atwood.
According to Ms Conway Mr Atwood never said that he thought Maura seemed intoxicated.
But apparently an unnamed witness at the scene was of the opinion that Maura probably was intoxicated.
The name of this purported second witness has never been mentioned anywhere as far as I know.
Any ideas?

I will tell Rosie you say hello.:-) Sorry for all this nonsense. I should never have mentioned that you told me anything. I could provide my social security number and a xeroxed copy of my behind to some of these people, and they still would insist I am someone I am not. Last week, I gave one guy here my phone number so he could verify I am not in fact Beagle or his lawyer. That's how silly this has gotten. I am sorry for having said anything or for doubting your word.

Now....Who wants to discuss the damage to the Saturn and the possible scenarios that lead to it being found at The WB curve on Rte 112.
