dare i suggest that preferred mascara has typically been water-proof for many years? only recently have i noticed a trend toward washable. jmo

took another look....the dark, irregular shadows, especially to the left side of the nose still look suspiciously like bruising to me.

Haha bill, u def make a point there. Clearly no worthwhile conclusions can be drawn from this phot copy of a crappy photo that was scanned into a computer.
But idk, I'm obviously not saying this is definitely a bruise but it sure as hell looks like it to me, & it just doesn't look like a camera artifact to my eye. It just has that classic bruise shape I've seen many times, looks like the bruise was healing.

Her eyeliner was definitely running but that's not what we r talking about, we r talking about the big black blotch on the left side of her nose(her left side). You can see a smaller black spot in her right side, looks like she was hit square in the nose and almost broke her nose.

she's clearly wearing eyeliner so that raises the question of why was she wearing makeup that night? It's been stated by her family that Maura never wore makeup, but she was wearing it.
Was she wearing it to cover ip bruising?
Something was going on in her life in Amherst that wasn't good & it would seem that this could be the answer to what happened to her.
Maybe If Fred wasn't so adamant about her prior life not nattering we wouldn't be having this conversation today and someone would be sitting in jail instead.
I mean come on, "it doesn't matter, find her!" what kind of crap is that?

Anybody who has any inclination of how an investigation works would know that the weeks leading up to the event are most likely going to tell you what happened.

So Fred supposedly has no idea why she was going up there, how would he possibly kno that no one was travelling with her either in her car or in tandem? How could he possibly not wanttjis avenue looked into?
There's a 99% chance that if a crime took place it was someone Maura knew and most likely was close to.
It's just weird

Wowzer, what I heard was car slid off the road. As you know this could be considered a common event in snow country. As it turned out it was more. I hope this clears it up for you. My thoughts were not on a missing Maura, they were on a stranded friend at the time. I listened for more than an hour to the radio traffic ..until my friend called me back.'car slid off the road' was an accident.'checking at Cottage', ended the evening.

Brian, One interesting question that stood out is why did the saturn go to Amherst in the first place ? It got me wondering about how Maura spent her Christmas break.

Did Maura go home for Christmas break? If (yes) then why let Maura drive a crappy car to Amherst and then go looking for cars.Why didn't Fred and Maura go looking for cars while she was on break in the Hanson area?

The pictures taken at the restaurant in Dec 27 of 2003 don't appear to show any signs of a black eye unless she was able to cover up with make up.This is the same month that the cc pic was taken and it looks like the Maura that we think of.

I thought this was odd as well, and I asked Renner about it - he stated that she WAS, in fact, booked (which means she was fingerprinted and her 'mug shot' was taken). However, it's not so odd after I looked into it - it's evidence, in the case, that she was the one who took receipt of the pizza/signed the CC slip: Not a mug shot.

I was also under the impression (for the longest time) that Anne was the source of the claim that there was an earlier accident. I wish I had a link to back it up - I don't. But I definitely recall it, from prior forums and earlier threads here @ Topix. If this information is incorrect, I would think that changes thoughts on the 'first accident'(which I personally don't think happen, but I know many do). Not jumping on you at all Anne, just curious.

The BOL was not issued to other local LE agencies until the following day. This info is also available on www.mauramurray.com and was obtained from the public records.

That the airbags in the car had been deployed

That there was a spider crack in the windshield.

That a neighbor, Butch Atwood, who lives near to the location of the accident, who was one of the people who called in the situation, and who was/is a close friend of the responding officer, when questioned by the responding officer, reported to them that a young woman of about 20 years of age was alone in the car, and that the young woman seemed frightened and cold, but not intoxicated.

Sorry, I don't whiston, but it had been said that Maura would get together with friends while on Break in the Hanson area. The 99 rest chain has signs similar but I am only guessing.

Remember the Saturn was within 200 FT of Atwood's house....so much closer to Butch's than The Westman's.
