I'm in Topix Rehab right now. It's a twelve step program, you have to admit you are powerless over Topix and it's posters. I'm not doing well in the Topix Rehab program, as you can tell.

I do love chicken salad though and the way A Green Tree makes it sounds wonderful! sign me up for the picnic. Be interesting to meet some of you. I might bring my German Shepard for protection though.

My shep mix is territorial, just like his owner.
Go easy on the cayenne. The dressing is 1/2 mayo + 1/2 plain Greek yogurt.

i think that's the bottom line. agreeing to disagree.
i've been wondering how anyone knows what shoes she was wearing or brought with her? i didn't think anyone knew what might have been missing from her wardrobe, or could have known what she took with her?
how did i miss that?

I don't know how the family might have known, unless by process of eliminating what was missing from her things maybe. If Maura was like me and only owns a few pairs of shoes, that's possible.

In an interview on Investigation Discovery, one of Maura's close friends recalled that Maura had once gone to Boston by herself without telling anyone, and that those close to her had spent a full day trying to track her down before she finally returned home. Is this simply a pattern of free-spirited behavior -- a person wanting to be alone and clear her head for a while? Or had Maura contemplated running away before, and then changed her mind?

I'm not trying to push the theory that Maura vanished of her own free will, because it would be extremely difficult to start a new life with no car, almost no personal belongings, and almost no money. It's quite difficult to go under the radar, flee to Canada, or commit identity theft in post-9/11 America. And if someone wanted to run away forever, they probably wouldn't bother e-mailing their professors with a white lie about a death in the family.

BUT... On the other hand, Maura did have plenty of motivation for wanting to run away: a strained relationship with her mother, a newly strained relationship with her father after wrecking his car, credit card fraud, possible expulsion from school, a rocky relationship with her boyfriend, the academic stress of a difficult nursing program (on top of two part-time jobs), and so forth. Given that Sharon Rausch became a surrogate mother or sorts for Maura and even gave her a AAA membership, a cell phone, etc., it sounds like Maura didn't have much of a support system around her.

Addendum to my last post above: If Maura did NOT intend to disappear of her own free will, it seems that she would have told at least one of her friends where she was going. She obviously would've known that people would be trying to find her after a day or so, if she were simply heading up to North Country for a few days.

And another motivation for her to disappear could have been her possible involvement with the hit-and-run accident with UMass student Petrit Vasi (though this is extremely speculative and so I won't open that can of worms -- but who knows).

I would like to know what was in her car tail pipe. Anyone know the correct answer? I have read different things from paper, rag or map of area.
