Your absolutely right...It makes no sense...Unless somehow she thought it was safer a bit further up.Maybe she thought it would be better there overnight, realizing she was no longer in any condition to drive.
yea - I was thinking that the witness observation of her backing up has merit. I can see her backing up to get away from the curve where it was safer.

Is it possible Maura had ,prior to the accident, ALREADY been at her destination, brought some of the booze inside&then left abruptly for some reason, hence her "friend" in the red truck out looking for her..Maybe they were going to head out to a hotel&skiing at 3 Oclock check in on Tuesday..
Where does the avid skier live JWB??

That is a very interesting point and possibility. I don't think I have heard that theory before but it make sense. I just did a mapquest from u-mass to BHR and it says 2hr 43 min and assuming she left at 4:30 that would put her there at 7:13 but she did seem to have a led foot. If she left at 4 then very possibly.
. IDK

I'd be curious to see if she entered check-in dates while searching for lodgeing...Maybe she swung by a house prior to the accident to pick someone up.

we know she searched for directions but haven't heard about inquiring into any other places to stay besides the call about the condo.

Funny. When I asked relatives years ago about Maura maybe skiing. They said she didn't.

Where are your manners young man ? Did your mother bring you up that way? You like to beat up on old women do you? I have always taught my kids in order to attract bees you use a little bit of honey. I will be kind to you but please don't make fun or mock me.

I was talking to JWB who at least has manners and is a decent human being .

Now you have gone and hurt my feelings. What did I do to deserve being treated like this.

And I am no young man. I am an old grizzled bastard.

Websleuths (Maura Murray) "banned" certain Posters because of their snarkiness (sp?) whatever, surly and lack of manners. The beat goes on here.
Most of us just want the truth as what happened to Maura.

I believe Maura may have been going to fast and the turn came up suddenly and her rear started to go right into the bend. Maura over compensated by turning her front wheels to the right and she gased it at the same time. This action of over compensation of the wheel and gasing it put her car in the opposite position of her back end facing out to the yellow lines and her drivers side corner was now angled to hit the trees. The snowbank cushioned some of the blow. It is difficult to try and explain it, but if you drawa backwards "S" this is the pattern the car may have taken.
Given the thaw and freeze temperatures on February 9, 2004 perhaps there was some black ice on the highway that evening and the Saturn slid down the road making the landing place further than 75 feet from the Wn's house and closer to the Mtte's? Unless, however, someone sabotaged the Saturn and/or crash site, it may not even be relevant. If the car wasn't running properly, then it's possible it stalled out earlier at 7pm and struck a post (or something) and the driver (Maura) left in (her own)“private vehicle”.

If the car conked out again at WB Corner, then maybe Maura moved it to a spot where it would be less likely to be struck by oncoming traffic. If the car was running on 3 cylinders (whatever that means -- don't need to know) and had stalled out twice, she wouldn't have wanted to risk it failing again on the steeper mountain roads closer to Bartlett, even if the car appeared to be drivable at that point in time. And if the Saturn indeed landed further along Route 112 (closer to BHR) that would explain why the Bloodhound quickly lost the scent near that spot.

I still think she put the rag in the tailpipe to prevent the Saturn from being stolen in the short time she was planning to be away in order to get cell reception to find a tow. I don't believe she was fall-down drunk and walked into the woods and succumbed to the elements anywhere along Route 112. I do believe (as all current information and evidence suggests) that she entered the vehicle of someone she was not previously acquainted with at the crash site and, since she's clearly not here, that foul play was involved.

The question is; did the perp. spy her earlier (MA Red Truck) and stalk her, or did someone come across a damsel in distress in a disabled vehicle (as in the Pamela Webb case) and lure her with the intention of abducting and murdering her?

And, as for the "vehemently refused help from the SBD" blah-blah-blah, it's possible Maura, squeezed up against a snow bank, realized that there was no way a man of his size would be able to get in and help free her from the airbags. She was probably being polite and thought that she could contact AAA on her own and resolve the situation. If she had no idea of the dodgy cell reception in that area then how could she be aware that she couldn't get a signal to call Triple A?

CS, SBD and other LE initially searched only west that night. Someone, IMO, initially saw a suspicious vehicle heading in a specific direction... and when the girl wasn't with her own vehicle at WBC they put 2 + 2 together on that fateful night.

Hi frosty- the car ended up a good 150 yards from the curve. My guess is that she did back her car as was seen by the husband peeling the orange. I don't think it could have slid that far. the roads were said to have been clear in the poilce report and it was about 35 deg when the accident happened.
